One week ago today you left your physical body to take your ultimate journey. You have always been a man who loved adventure. This past April we spoke on the phone for your birthday, which you share with my oldest daughter. You were pumped to hear about our travels to Mexico, you shared memories you had of your first wife and her father, they were happy memories for you. In May, you were found unconscious at your home. I felt the need to be with you. From that moment on you experienced many things that I felt was fundamentally wrong. You were passed from facility to facility by a person who was not even present. I pleaded with this person to allow you to come to my home so the appropriate care could be given to you. You were still very much with us, you had more to give this world, you just weren’t ready to be written off. Your life has meant so much to many people who love you and your passion for your patients was never ending. Every time I came to Florida to see you during this difficult time I was so very proud to tell the staff your story, Dr. Magier, who came to this country as a young child from the Ukraine with your parents. The staff had no idea how wonderful you are and the incredible life you lived. Your role with my family began when you were helping my grandfather. You and my mother worked together for many years, and eventually became partners. You were the best thing to happen to her, which was why when we heard your time with us was limited we made sure she was by your side. The last time I was with you in the early morning hours of the day before you passed, you very clearly told us you were fine, and the last word you said to me was my name. Your anxious, stressful demeanor disappeared once we arrived. You knew we were there and you could let go. Like clockwork your vitals took a turn for the worse and mom was there to help you transition and take flight. You will always have a very special place in our hearts, therefore you will continue to live. Love you so much Igor, so so much. I hope you enjoy the beautiful blooms on your mother’s “Thanksgiving” cactus, a beautiful message she sent us when you joined her.
