Stephanie Millholland, Birth Doula

Stephanie Millholland, Birth Doula I provide informational, physical and emotional support through pregnancy, labor, birth and the immediate postpartum.

Serving Richmond, Henrico, Hanover and surrounding areas. Professional Birth Doula trained through toLabor in January 2018. I serve expecting women in the Richmond area and support them through their pregnancy, labor, birth and in the postpartum period. I am merely a labor assistant to educate and enable new mothers and their families to have the best birth experience they could ask for. I am happily and readily available to provide tools and education, as well as emotional and physical support in the capacity in which my client needs me to be. I am currently continuing my own education and broadening my specialties to include acupressure, aromatherapy and more!

Soon there will be closed doors and independence, and we will pine for the days when she needed to feel our hand on her back before she could sleep.

A new blog post on my website.

Happy July 2021, all! I know that I'm not alone in saying that the past year (or longer) has highlighted and turned my priorities inside out. I attended my last birth a week before the world seemed to shut down (which was, coincidentally, also my birthday), and have been pretty quiet since then. In....

Important questions to ask yourself when considering where you will give birth. It truly is an individual choice, and reflective of your beliefs, values, boundaries, and of the birth YOU want!

During those first couple of months it might feel as if your baby is attached to you and that’s because they are. Lol Your baby only wants you bc your baby only knows you. Your baby knows your voice. Your baby knows your smell. Your baby knows your heartbeat. You are the only constant that your baby has. Rest, let your body heal, & cuddle with that baby! Again, you can’t “spoil” a baby & touch + human connection is crucial. Let your baby sleep on you. Let your baby nurse for hours because babies nurse for more than food, they nurse for comfort, thirst, closeness, eye contact. Let your baby find solace in you and nurse on mama✨

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt practically every sector of society, life literally goes on. There were 22,965 births in Virginia between March 1 and Monday. Happy Juneteenth! To POC reading this, I hope you can find time today to take care of yourself and to get some much-deserved rest.

To white allies, please make sure to educate yourself about this important day that is (after way too long) finally being recognized as a day to celebrate the independence of POC in this country. If within your means, donate to a charity or organization fighting for equity and reform. Even better, donate directly to birth workers of color, or to POC who have spent their time and energy educating us through this time (and always). Volunteer for these organizations. Show up to a protest, or a Juneteenth celebration if one is happening in your area.

"“Based on the available evidence, WHO’s advice is that the benefits of breastfeeding outweigh any potential risks of transmission of COVID-19,” he said."

Breastfeeding mothers do not seem to be passing on the new coronavirus to their infants, and based on current evidence the benefits outweigh any potential risks of transmission, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.
