Journey House Recovery Center began with a simple, powerful question asked by founders Michael Tillem and Kimberly Braine-Tillem:
đź’« Where do people go when they are ready to rebuild their lives?

What started as one home and a handful of beds in Glen Allen has grown into a full continuum of substance use disorder recovery care across the Richmond region.

Their vision was never just shelter. It was dignity, structure, and a real chance at lasting change for people navigating addiction, incarceration, homelessness, and trauma.

Today, that vision lives on through Journey House Behavioral Health, Journey House RVA Recovery Residences, and Journey House Foundation, all rooted in trust, connection, and belief in what is possible.

Operation Stuff a Stocking is underway at Journey House, and we’re so grateful for the generosity our community has already shown. 💚 As we continue preparing for the families and children we serve, there are a few items we still need to help make this season special.

We are especially in need of:
• Full-size and individually wrapped candy canes
• Winter gear like gloves, scarves, and hats
• Toys for children 18 months and younger

Please note that we will no longer be accepting donations after the 19th of this month, so now is the time to get your donations in while you still can.

Donations can be dropped off at our Center on Shrader Road, Monday–Friday from 9 AM–4:30 PM, or purchased directly through our Amazon Wishlist:

Thank you for helping us bring warmth, joy, and encouragement to the families walking their recovery journey with Journey House.

Operation Stuff a Stocking is underway at Journey House, and we’re gathering holiday gifts to bring joy and comfort to the families and children we support. 💚

We’re welcoming donations of stockings, holiday candy, winter essentials like knit gloves, small stocking-sized surprises for kids, toys for little ones, and simple gift cards that help make the season brighter.

We’re still in need of a few specific items to help us finish strong. Full-sized candy canes, individually wrapped candy canes, toys for children 18 months and younger, and winter gear like gloves, scarves, and hats would make a meaningful difference.

You can drop off donations at our Center on Shrader Road, Monday through Friday between 9 AM and 4:30 PM.
If you prefer to give online, our Amazon Wishlist is available here:

She walked in alone. She left with a family.

When Amanda first came to Journey House, she didn’t have hope. Addiction had taken so much, and every day felt like starting over. But here, she found a place that wouldn’t give up on her — and unexpectedly, she found love.

She and Erik met while in our recovery program. Two people surviving finally began to heal. Today, they’re a family with three children, and they’re giving back by helping others find the same strength that changed their lives. Amanda now leads Hope at Home, supporting parents and children as they grow together.

This is what your generosity makes possible — new beginnings, restored families, and communities built on hope. When you give to Journey House, you help another parent find stability and another child experience healing.

Hope doesn’t end when someone walks through our doors. It begins there. 💛

Recovery doesn’t have just one path, and it doesn’t happen alone. For many families, substance use disorder impacts everyone — especially children.

Hope at Home, led by Journey House Foundation founder Kimberly Braine-Tillem, brings parents in recovery and their children together in a safe, supportive space to learn, connect, and grow. At our Fall Kick-Off on September 23, Kimberly, Amanda, and Katelyn welcomed both new and returning families for an evening filled with activities, snacks, games, and meaningful exercises that strengthen trust and resilience.

We’re grateful to Girl Scout Troop 5360 for donating backpacks and school supplies for the kids — your support helps make these moments possible.

As Kimberly shares, “The bond between a parent and child forms the foundation for how a child handles life’s challenges. Hope at Home strengthens that bond and connects parents in recovery.”

Hope at Home reflects our commitment to strengthening families and creating pathways to lasting recovery, one family at a time. đź’›

We’re proud to introduce Journey House Behavioral Health RVA, the newest part of our integrated Journey House Recovery Center network.

JHBH provides clinical outpatient treatment, including Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs, with personalized care for alcohol, opioids, prescription drugs, stimulants, and other substances. Treatment plans are tailored to each individual’s recovery goals and are covered by Medicaid and most major insurance carriers.

This expansion allows individuals to move seamlessly between levels of care — from clinical treatment to ongoing community support — strengthening the path toward long-term recovery.

At Journey House, recovery is more than treatment. It’s about building lasting change and thriving beyond addiction.
