Maybe Tomorrow
Maybe today is not the day
to find the words you'll fully understand,
when quiet dreams tangle
in half-written lines,
wishing clarity was something
I could hold in my hand.
Maybe today I'd rather skip forward,
to a place already built,
where bills don't hang like chains
of choices past,
and your account balance doesn't whisper
of lingering guilt.
Or maybe today is special enough
for a quiet hour in the car,
where simple talk drifts gently—
brief freedom found in spaces
between who we were
and who we are.
Maybe today should remind me
to stop chasing tomorrow
at today's expense—
letting future dreams rob
what joy remains
from life's subtle present tense.
And perhaps today I choose differently,
to leave shadows behind
and not retrace my father's steps,
learning slowly how
to mold my own life
without his same regrets.
But there are bills to pay
and pressures pulling tight,
whispering again
that maybe today
is not the day
to make these words right.
Still, maybe—
maybe tomorrow.

"The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken" ---Samuel Johnson--
I wouldn't call myself a poet by any means but I was able to string this together. Life is not without its challenges and everyone has their own bad habits specific to them, these are a few of mine.
Procrastination, comparison, and absentmindedness/musing.
