The Arc of Mercer County

The Arc of Mercer County Since 1952, The Arc of Mercer County has been a leading provider of services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Arc of Mercer County provides quality, comprehensive services that ensure people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder are empowered in all aspects of life. promote better residential services

develop employment opportunities for people with disabilities

educate the public about the causes and prevention of intellectual and developmental disabilities

provide services not available from public and other private agencies.

Day Program Director Kamala Sham and Program Specialist Ashley Clepper were invited to attend Watson’s Transition Fair, where they had the opportunity to share information about the wide range of services that MCAR, Inc. provides. This event allowed them to connect with new families and discuss the supports available as students prepare to transition from high school to adulthood. It was a valuable opportunity to promote MCAR’s mission and highlight the meaningful programs that empower individuals to lead fulfilling, independent lives.

MCAR individuals were thrilled to be invited to the Mercer County BHC Annual Fall Festival at Iron Mills Farmstead. They enjoyed a wonderful day filled with delicious food, lively music, and fun games.
It was a joy to see familiar faces around the farm and to reconnect with peers we haven’t seen in some time. The event brought together so many people from across Mercer County, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere to celebrate the season and enjoy each other’s company as fall approaches.

Long-time staff member, Mona Novak, has built a meaningful and lasting connection with the workers and owner of Root House International in Mercer, PA. Each year, from spring through fall, Mona leads her CPS group in volunteering with this incredible organization.

The mission of Root International is to bring together community organizations, ministries, and churches, as God directs. Root International partners with these groups in benevolence, education, and information to strengthen their capacity and effectiveness.

During their volunteer days, our staff and individuals assist by sorting through donated items from all over. Donations are organized into categories such as bedding, kitchen items, and clothing, then boxed, color-coordinated, and labeled with their destinations. The majority of items are sent to Mexico and the Navajo Nation, though Root International has also extended help to many other cities and states in times of need.

It is truly inspiring to see our dedicated staff and individuals working so hard, gaining a sense of accomplishment, and making a positive difference in the lives of others. Mona’s commitment to building this partnership is a wonderful example of how service, compassion, and community engagement come together at MCAR.
