Staying in shape is GREAT (and recommended) — but unless you’re a professional athlete, some exercises create more wear than reward. Smart modifications to your workout routine today can save you from pain/injuries that result in surgeries later. 👇

🏋️‍♂️Common workouts that lead to injuries:
🦴Upright rows → associated with rotator cuff & biceps tendon pathology
🦴Barbell Deadlifts → hamstring, lumbar, and adductor strains/tears
🦴Box jumps under fatigue → Achilles & patellar tendon ruptures
🦴Kipping pull-ups → biceps, labral, and rotator cuff tears
🦴GHD sit-ups → hip flexor and re**us abdominis tears

🏋️‍♂️Lift Alternatives to prevent Injuries:
🦴Upright rows → Face pulls or cable lateral raises
🦴Barbell Deadlifts (to failure) → Trap bar deadlifts or RDLs
🦴 Box jumps under fatigue → Step-ups or sled pushes
🦴Kipping pull-ups → Strict pull-ups or lat pulldowns
🦴GHD sit-ups → Dead bugs or ab rollouts

Fitness is great. Muscle and tendon damage isn’t. Train smarter now to protect your body long-term! 💪

🚨Check out one of Dr. Barksdale’s before and afters! 👏

Before and after X-rays tell part of the story — but the real transformation happens in how patients live afterward. With minimally invasive bunion correction, this patient was able to walk the same day as surgery, avoiding the long, restrictive recoveries many people expect. Less disruption, smaller incisions, and a faster return to movement can make a meaningful difference. More importantly, procedures like this give patients back the ability to move comfortably, stay active, and enjoy daily life without constant pain. When foot pain no longer dictates your choices, quality of life improves in ways an X-ray can’t fully capture.

How to break an Orthopedic Surgeons heart 101 👆💔

Surgery is only one piece of the recovery puzzle! Physical therapy is what restores strength, mobility, and confidence after an orthopedic procedure. It helps reduce stiffness, rebuild muscle, and guide your body back to normal movement safely. Skipping PT can slow healing, increase pain, and turn a smooth surgery into a longer, more frustrating recovery.

When patients commit to PT, they’re not just “checking a box” — they’re protecting their investment and giving themselves the best chance at a faster, stronger return to daily life.
