Demanding truth.
This week, the NYC Council unanimously voted to investigate what City Hall knew about the toxic dangers at Ground Zero—and when.
24 years later, survivors and first responders are still demanding answers.
Ground Zero was filled with asbestos, yet the public was told the air was safe to breathe.
This investigation is more than long overdue. It's a turning point for transparency, accountability, and prevention.
It also reinforces why the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now (ARBAN) Act must become law. The U.S. still allows asbestos use and imports. There is no safe level of exposure.
We can’t afford to ignore the past—or repeat it.

Posted on July 17, 2025 “I want to know who knew–when–how dangerous it was.” That powerful statement from FDNY firefighter Andy Ansbro, who has survived cancer three times since responding to the September 11th attacks in New York City, reverberates 24 years later as this week the City Counc...

BREAKING: EPA MOVES TO GUT ASBESTOS PROTECTIONS
The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is deeply alarmed by the Trump Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plan to roll back the 2024 Chrysotile Asbestos Rule — a rule that was supposed to save lives.
⚠️ This dangerous reversal threatens public health.⚠️ Every 13 minutes, someone dies from a preventable asbestos-caused disease.
The EPA confirmed in a recent DOJ court filing that it plans to reopen and weaken the rule under the Toxic Substances Control Act. This is not just bureaucratic backpedaling — it's a direct threat to our communities, workers, and first responders.
We cannot stand by.
With your support, ADAO will continue to fight for a full ban on asbestos and the protection of public health.

As we enter summer, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is intensifying its advocacy for asbestos prevention—especially during hurricane season, when the risk of exposure increases in homes, schools, and workplaces.
This September 12–13, ADAO will host its 20th Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference in New York City, building on the legacy of Dr. Irving Selikoff and advancing the conversation on science, prevention, and justice.
This month also marks the launch of The Source—an AI-powered chatbot that provides direct access to ADAO’s extensive 600 + video archive on asbestos prevention and policy.
We encourage everyone to prepare and protect their communities from preventable exposure risks. Join us in raising awareness and driving meaningful change.
