Everyone deserves honesty from their partner, and practicing good s*xual health means practicing open communication. Before you can be honest with your partner(s) you can take the time you need to get to know yourself, your preferences, values, desires and needs. Honesty with self usually comes before honesty with another.
Expecting honest communication from a partner doesn’t mean you get to interrogate them until you hear what you want or get your questions answered. Sometimes it means practicing patience while allowing your partner the space to be honest with themselves. Other times it means building trust and safety so that you both feel comfortable being honest when the time is right.
If you find yourself being regularly lied to, or if you feel your boundaries are being violated with no successful attempts at repair, you have the right to decide to walk away from any relationship. Keep in mind this includes s*xual partners, friends, family or even more distant relationships!
