P I T O C I N

Pitocin is not inherently bad on its own, it has been used to save many lives of birthing mothers, but when there’s no informed consent, then how are you able to make the best decision for yourself?

➡️Did you know that Pitocin is NOT approved for non-medical inductions of labor, due to the risks associated?

➡️Medical inductions of labor would be situations such as:

Cholestasis
Elevated liver enzymes
Uncontrolled gestational diabetes
And other medically necessary situations…

➡️In the case of preeclampsia, where blood pressure isn’t able to be managed by diet change and supplements, then cesarean would be the safest option for delivery, as Pitocin increases BP and creates a risk for both mom and baby.

➡️Did you know that if you’ve had a previous C-section or any surgery on your cervix, you are CONTRAINDICATED to receive Pitocin?

You increase the risk of uterine rupture and postpartum hemorrhage exponentially! (VBAC mamas, take note!)

➡️Did you know there are serious risks to your baby too?

Please, mamas, for your health and safety, and for the health and safety of your babies, learn more about Pitocin and the risks associated with an unnecessary induction!

➡️And just to add, this is not fear mongering. This is education. We are severely lacking in birth education and it’s important that we become aware for ourselves, for our children and for future generations, so we can make the best decisions for OURSELVES!

➡️Pitocin has saved the lives of many postpartum hemorrhaging mothers, and I’ve personally witnessed this, so I don’t believe it is an evil or bad tool on its own, you just need to know what you’re saying “YES” to!

Join me this Sunday, 2/25 as we learn about Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders. This is a complimentary workshop in honor of Miriam bat Osnat, may she RIP. May we never hear of such a tragedy again. Let’s learn the warning signs and what can be done to help.

Approximately 85% of people report feeling emotional after baby is born. This can be due to hormonal changes, physical pain or discomforts, fatigue or sleep deprivation, traumatic birth or a birth that didn’t go as hoped, a new body and a new routine.

The most important thing is to be able to differentiate between what we call “baby blues” from perinatal mood or anxiety disorders (PMAD). The biggest things to consider are how long, how intense, and how often.

The team of support can’t stop once a baby is born. This newly transformed mother should be waited on, loved, fanned, massaged, fed, nourished, encouraged, supported, and when all of that is done, repeat!

My hope as a birth worker is to alleviate the burden for as many mothers as I can! Even if I’m not your doula, even if we don’t know each other, don’t hesitate to reach out so I can help guide you.

Facts about nuchal cords:

✨Nuchal cords are incredibly common, occurring in an estimated 1 in 3 births.

✨They are rarely dangerous.

✨Babies receive oxygen through the umbilical cord in utero, not breathing through the mouth or nose, so a cord around the neck is not cutting off their air. If the cord is left in tact, baby can still receive oxygen from the placenta for several minutes after birth.

✨Most babies with a nuchal cord have one that is very loose and can be simply slipped over the head after birth. There is usually no indication of the nuchal cord at all.

✨The main way for a nuchal cord to be harmful (if the cord is healthy) is if it is wrapped multiple times and is so tight that it compresses itself, thereby decreasing blood flow inside, or if there is a true knot so tight that it does the same (rare). The cord would need to be extremely tight to cut off blood flow between the body and brain.

✨Nuchal cord is very difficult to identify before birth, even with ultrasound.

✨You do not need to have a c-section solely due to a suspected nuchal cord.

✨Medications given during a birth induction can cause erratic and extra strong contractions, causing heart decelerations in the fetus. If a c-section is performed and a nuchal cord is discovered, it is frequently blamed (though the cause was more likely the induction medication). This can lead the mother to feel her baby was “saved” by the hospital staff, when they may have actually been the ones to CAUSE the issues the baby was “saved” from.

✨A healthy umbilical cord is filled with a gelatinous substance called Wharton’s Jelly that protects the cord vessels as a fetus twists and turns its wayside the uterus.

✨Have you or someone you know had a baby born with a nuchal cord?
