There are two simple personal hygiene habits you can take to prevent illness and reduce the spread in our communities:

-Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly. This is one of the most important steps you can take to stay healthy. Wash after using the bathroom; before preparing or eating food; after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; after feeding or petting your pets; and after visiting or caring for a sick person.

-Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Then, dispose of it. If you don’t have a tissue handy, sneeze into your elbow, not into your hands.

Tips to reduce your risk of

1. Stop smoking; it has been linked to many types of cancer, including cancer of the lung, mouth, throat, voice box, pancreas, bladder, cervix, and kidney. Even being around secondhand smoke may raise the risk of lung cancer.

2. Skin cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancer and one of the easiest to prevent. Limit time spent in the sun; especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest.

3. Get regular medical care. Get screenings for cancers, such as cancer of the skin, colon, cervix, and breast. These efforts raise the chances of finding cancer early. That's when treatment is most likely to work.
