It was a good week in the clinic this week!

I use a lot of tools when I treat a client. Each client is different and so are the tools that I may use with them or have them use at home. These are just a few!

Why do I do what I do?
As a physical therapist I could be focusing on so many areas to help people.
But I wanted to be great at helping clients with something I can relate to.
I am a woman and I have been where you are.

Throughout a woman’s life our body goes through so many changes and adjustments and it’s never the same.
It helps to have some who can relate when needing help. I can’t wait to help you!

This week I had the opportunity to administer dry needling to a client following their recovery from an intensive surgical repair of their cervical spine.

Once the incision has fully healed and there is no risk of infection, dry needling can be a valuable adjunct therapy.

In this instance, it helped alleviate muscle tension, improved local blood flow to facilitate regained mobility, and broke down scar tissue.
As illustrated in this image, I strategically applied needles to the cervical area surrounding the scar, targeting specific muscles, and additionally placed needles directly over the scar (not shown) to promote optimal scar tissue healing.

The client has scheduled several appointments for additional dry needling and
I'm excited to see how this will help the healing process over time.

Do you have a scar that feels tough and restricted? Maybe dry needling can help! Reach out to find out more!

On my drive this morning learning about research on stress urinary incontinence for women runners!
It’s not just about the pelvic floor.
It’s about how your foot and ankle absorb the force while running and how it transfers that energy up the leg into the pelvis!
Amazing research happening all the time to help women with urinary incontinence!

What are other ways you can work on the pelvic floor?
Exercises that target foot, ankle, and lower leg strength can build a strong foundation that supports the pelvic floor and whole body!
It’s another piece of the puzzle.
