Beyond Back Pain…Growing Pains.

It is estimated that 2 in 5 children will experience growing pains during development and they occur between the ages of 3 to 12. The cause is unknown, but they are considered related to the normal process of growth and development.

Growing pains are cramps or aching in the extremities that children and teens experience, typically at night.
The pain is usually in the legs, the calves, thighs, or behind the knee. The cramps and aching typically last for a few hours and then go away. They are part of the normal process of skeletal and muscle maturity and can happen during growth spurts.

An increase in physical activity and low Vitamin D levels can make growing pains worse. Chiropractic care is a sate, non-invasive, and non-addictive form of healthcare that can help.

Did you know 1 can of Coke contains about 10 teaspoons of sugar? That’s more 80% of the recommended amount of daily sugar intake, not to mention the added chemicals.

The amount of added sugar you can safely consume varies, and added sugar is often hiding in single servings of sodas and other sweetened drinks.

Most of the calories in these beverages are "empty," meaning they provide little to no nutritional value and even the potential benefits of certain drinks are minimized by their excessively high sugar content. It is recommended to consume no more than 10% of daily calories of added sugars; these récommendations don't apply to sugars that naturally occur in foods, including fructose in fruits.

Artificial sweeteners such as aspartame contain zero calories but are made from chemicals that have no nutritional value.

Beyond Back Pain…Bedwetting

Millions of children wake up in the morning with wet pajamas and wet sheets from undeveloped bladder control. Bed-wetting, officially known as enuresis, presents as a condition in a child age 5 or older who wet the bed at least one time each week.

Chaotic emotions contribute to bed wetting at times, but most cases involve issues with the nervous system and sensory control of bladder function. A healthy brain to body communication system provides a child with the best opportunity to control and coordinate proper bladder control.

This is where chiropractic comes into play! Chiropractic adjustments to correct areas of spinal subluxation create a substantially higher rate of overcoming enuresis than children who do not get adjusted.

Probiotics are used to assist the body, more specifically the digestive system, in doing its job easier and better. The main job of probiotics, or good bacteria, is to maintain a healthy balance in your body.

Think of it as keeping your body in neutral. When you are sick, bad bacteria enters your body and increases in number. This knocks your body out of balance. Good bacteria works to fight off the bad bacteria and restore the balance within your body, making you feel better. Some probiotics exist naturally in certain foods.

Fermented foods, like yogurt and pickles, are home to a host of good bacteria that benefit your body. There are also fermented drinks like kombucha (fermented tea) that introduce extra probiotics into your diet. You can also take probiotics as a supplement if you do not get enough in your diet.

Beyond Back Pain…Constipation

Constipation is defined as the reduced frequency and difficulty experienced in eliminating teces. Normally, intestinal muscles helps in pushing the intestinal contents through the a**s.

Ganglion cells are special nerve cells that help the muscles contract and relax to push the stool out. The brain and the spinal cord are connected to the celiac ganglion through nerve roots exiting the spine around the levels of T12 and L1.

When these nerve roots are compressed, possibly due to pressure from misalignment of the vertebrae, the normal functioning of the bowel is altered. This would result in digestive problems including diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome and constipation.

Chiropractic can help to eliminate nerve pressure and restore communication between the brain and body and can help with constipation.

With regular chiropractic care, along with a healthy fiber rich diet, exercise, adequate water intake and controlled stress levels, constipation as well as many other digestive issues can be managed, and even eliminated.

Beyond Back Pain…Incontinence

The bladder serves a specific function for the body, and when it doesn't work properly, it can lead to urine leakage due to lack of sphincter control, also known as incontinence.

On average, one-fourth of Americans today report suffering from urinary incontinence, and it affects both men and women. To correct incontinence, some people can simply change certain behaviors in order to improve bladder function.

For instance, monitoring and limiting how much you drink at one time can help control how full your bladder gets. Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic muscles are also recommended, but chiropractic care is also a great option to treat urinary incontinence!

Bladder muscles are ultimately controlled by the central nervous system which works in conjunction with the spine, so a spinal adjustment can remove any nerve interference that is causing a miscommunication between your brain and urinary system.

Menopause marks the end of a woman's menstruation cycle-a natural, biological process typically beginning around age 50 although some women lose their period as early as age 45.

Many women experience night sweats, trouble sleeping, mood swings, chills, anxiety, hot flashes, etc.

Declining levels of estrogen also put women at a higher risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, muscle loss, and occasional urinary incontinence.

Healthy Habits…Take a Walk

Did you know in order to burn off 1 M&M candy you need to walk the entire length of a football field?

Walking is the most popular aerobic physical activity. Walking can help improve health even without weight loss.

People who are physically active live longer and have a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes,
depression, and some cancers. The problem is, only 48% of all adults get the recommended amount of physical activities to improve their health.

That means that 52% of ALL adults do not! Adults need at least 2 and 1/2 hours (150 minutes) a week of aerobic physical activity.

This should be at a moderate level, such as a fast-paced walk for no less than 10 minutes at a time. Walking 6,000 steps a day will help improve your health and walking 10,000 will help you lose weight.

Walking increases blood flow to the brain and improves your mood. Walking for 10 miles every week would eliminate 500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

Arthritis has many names and forms and it is a common term used by many doctors as a coverall diagnosis. There are two types of arthritis; degenerative and inflammatory.

Osteoarthritis is the most common kind of arthritis and a main cause of joint pain. It happens when the cartilage that, cushions your joints, degenerates/wears down and the bone rubs against bone, causing pain and swelling.

Chiropractic adjustments may be able to address the cause of osteoarthritis. A joint may be damaged over time because it's out of alignment, or because of the way you sit, stand, or walk.

Chiropractic care can fix those issues, which may keep your arthritis from getting worse. Chiropractors can't restore cartilage that's already lost but can keep the joint moving to prevent further degeneration.
