🌼 July is Group B Strep (GBS) Awareness Month 🌼

👶🏽💉 Keeping Moms and Babies Safe
Did you know? Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a common type of bacteria that 1 in 4 pregnant women carry naturally. While it's usually harmless in adults, it can pose serious risks to newborns if passed on during childbirth.

🩺 At our office, we screen for GBS between 35 and 37 weeks of pregnancy. If you test positive, don’t worry — antibiotics during labor are highly effective in protecting your baby from infection.

📌 GBS can cause:
• Sepsis
• Pneumonia
• Meningitis in newborns

✨ What you can do:
✔️ Attend your prenatal appointments
✔️ Ask questions about GBS screening
✔️ Learn your status — knowledge is power!

Together, we can raise awareness and promote healthy beginnings for every baby. 💗

**June is National PTSD Awareness Month 💙**

At Catawba Women’s Center, we recognize that trauma—especially related to childbirth, pregnancy loss, intimate partner violence, or past medical experiences—can have a lasting impact on both mental and physical health.

If you or someone you love is struggling, you're not alone. Talk to your provider. We’re here to help connect you with trauma-informed care and mental health resources.

🩺 Healing starts with awareness. Let’s end the stigma—together. 💬

🩺 Today is National Preeclampsia Awareness Day 💜

At Catawba Women’s Center, we are committed to supporting the health and well-being of every expecting parent. Preeclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication that affects approximately 5–8% of pregnancies and can pose risks to both mom and baby if not caught early.

👩‍⚕️ What is Preeclampsia?
Preeclampsia is a condition marked by high blood pressure and signs of damage to organs, often the liver and kidneys. It typically develops after 20 weeks of pregnancy and can progress quickly.

📍 Know the Warning Signs
• High blood pressure
• Swelling of hands, face, or eyes
• Sudden weight gain
• Severe headaches
• Vision changes (blurry vision, seeing spots)
• Upper abdominal pain

🧪 Early Detection Saves Lives
Regular prenatal care is key. We monitor blood pressure, urine protein levels, and other risk factors at every visit.

❤️ If you’re pregnant or planning to be, talk to your provider about how to reduce your risk. Preeclampsia can be managed when identified early. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns—we’re here for you every step of the way.
