A teenager was filling up his car when an older gentleman pulled in beside him, holding a small gas can for his lawn mower. He waited patiently, not saying a word.

The teenager noticed.

He stopped pumping, pulled the nozzle from his own car, and said,
“Sir, would you mind if I filled your can first?”

The older man protested, embarrassed, waving him off. But the kid just smiled and kept going. As the can filled, the gentleman relaxed and began telling a story. When the can was full, the teenager handed it back, slid the nozzle into his own car, and finished filling up.

The man tried to pay him.
The teenager refused.

“Have a wonderful day, sir.”

And that was it.

No cameras.
No speeches.
No need for applause.

As the kid pulled out onto the blacktop, he lit the tires on his red stallion just a little, grinning from ear to ear.

And so was I.

They’re all over this country.
They come in many shapes and colors.

Don’t dismiss his generation.
Teach them.
Model it.
Raise them to notice.

Because kindness like that doesn’t happen by accident.

I can promise you this:
That boy was raised to say sir and ma’am.
