Celebrating One Year of Catawba Valley Vascular Surgery – Horizon! Last month marked one year since we opened our Horizon location in Lenoir — expanding access to specialized vascular care for patients across Caldwell County and beyond.

Catawba Valley Family Medicine - Viewmont welcomes their new provider - Kate Ryan, DO!

Dr. Kate Ryan was born in Boone, North Carolina, and raised in the NC mountains. She graduated with honors in Biology from Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2012, where she was also a standout student-athlete, earning NCAA Division II All-American honors seven times in Cross Country and Track. After graduation, Dr. Ryan spent a year serving as a missionary in Madagascar before enrolling in the inaugural class at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she earned her medical degree in 2018. She then completed her residency in Family Medicine at SOVAH Health in Danville, Virginia.

Dr. Ryan joins us most recently from a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Bassett, Virginia, where she practiced for four years. She is passionate about all aspects of family medicine, with special interests in pediatrics, women’s health, and sports medicine procedures.

Outside of work, Dr. Ryan enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, and their two daughters—Grace, who recently started kindergarten, and Peyton, who is one. Their family also includes a golden retriever named Crosby. She loves running, hiking, cooking, and anything outdoors. Dr. Ryan is excited to return to Hickory and serve the community she calls home.

Gastroenterology Associates welcomes their new provider - Morgan Brinkman, PA-C!

Morgan joined Gastroenterology Associates of Catawba Valley in September 2025. Most recently, she was a physician assistant with a gastroenterology practice in the Boone area. She has also served as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), medical office assistant, and certified nursing assistant working in western North Carolina. Morgan earned her undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University with a concentration in Exercise Science, and she received her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Wingate University.

Morgan is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and licensed in the state of North Carolina. She is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology. Also, Morgan is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Flu season is upon us! Each Catawba Valley Medical Group family medicine practice has flu vaccines available for patients. Flu vaccination is important for anyone six months and older. It is especially important to get your flu vaccine if you are within a high-risk population or you are immunocompromised.

Catawba Valley Surgery & Cancer Center recently welcomed their newest provider - Roy Baskin, MD!

Dr. Baskin is a Texas native. His grandfather, whom he admired very much, was a general surgeon in his hometown of Waco, and his aspiration to pursue surgery was at least in part motivated by that family tradition. He obtained his medical degree from UT Southwestern in Dallas and completed his surgical training at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Dallas. His wife and three children are excited to be in North Carolina and look forward to a bright future here.
