Happy National Working Moms Day!

Between the career goals, the school runs, the dinner prep, and the therapy appointments here at CNS Clinic, we know your “to-do” list never truly ends. You are the driver, the cheerleader, the advocate, and the heart of your family.

We see the dedication you bring to every session and the love you pour into every milestone your child reaches. Today, we want to hit “pause” and celebrate YOU.

Tag a working mom who is absolutely crushing it in the comments below! 👇 Let’s lift each other up today.

Telling a child to “calm down” does not teach them how to calm down.

Young children are not born knowing how to manage anger, frustration, fear, or overwhelm. Their brains are still developing. When emotions become too big, the thinking part of the brain goes offline. In that moment, the child cannot reason, listen, or control their behaviour.

What helps is a calm adult.

When an adult stays steady, speaks gently, and helps the child name what they feel, the child’s nervous system begins to settle. This process is called co-regulation. It is how children gradually learn self-regulation, emotional control, and coping skills.

Over time, children internalise these calm responses. The words we use, the patience we show, and the safety we provide slowly become the child’s own inner voice.

Children do not learn emotional regulation from fear, pressure, or punishment.

They learn it from connection, safety, and calm adults.

LIKE the photo and comment "REGULATION" and we will send you a message with a link to a free PDF of this resource.

Stay warm and active! Since the snow is keeping us home today, CNS Clinic put together a few ways to turn a snow day into a “therapy day” without the kids even realizing it. ❄️🏃‍♂️
❄️ Snow Day Therapy Ideas
1. Occupational Therapy (OT): The “Snow Kitchen”
The Activity: Grab measuring cups, spoons, and spray bottles filled with water and food coloring.
The Benefit: Using spray bottles builds hand strength, while scooping and pouring snow works on bilateral coordination and fine motor control.
2. Physical Therapy (PT): Snow Monster Stomp
The Activity: Put on those heavy snow boots and trudge through the deep snow, making the biggest footprints possible. Try “Follow the Leader” in a straight line.
The Benefit: Walking through resistance is an incredible proprioceptive workout. it builds leg strength, improves balance, and helps with body awareness.
3. Speech Therapy (ST): Sensory “I Spy”
The Activity: Describe the snow using all five senses. Is it crunchy? Fluffy? Freezing? Bright?
The Benefit: This is perfect for building descriptive vocabulary and practicing “S” and “ST” blends (Snow, Sled, Sticky, Cold). Ask “Wh-“ questions about what the neighborhood looks like covered in white!

We want to see your snow creations! Tag us in your photos of snowman, forts, or “colored snow” art. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the clinic soon!
