The path that I take will not be easy. The only way I can see change is if I become the change. It starts with me and no one else can walk these shoes for me."
If it was easy, there would be no disease in this world. I believe in you and you should start believing in yourself too.
Let tomorrow be the day you be the change.

There are so many ways to help you reach maximum healing however, here are the top 6 ways to do it.
1. Stop doing cold and/or ice cold foods and drinks. Our body is challenged enough and when you introduce cold into your body, your body has to work harder by having to put in more energy to process it. Also, our body likes to be warm. Normal body temp is 98.6 degree F. If your body temp is even a couple degrees lower or higher than 98.6 degrees F, your body is already telling it, it's challenged.
2. Decreasing inflammation is crucial. There are several inflammatory markers that could be ordered by your doctor to determine the level of inflammation in your body. Some diseases are more inflammatory than others therefore, just because your inflammatory markers are low doesn't mean you can now quit all the things you were doing to get it down low. You must continue!
3. Maximizing oxygenation is so crucial. Every single cell in our body needs oxygen. Without oxygenation, we die. When our heart no longer pumps blood with oxygen to our brain and the rest of our body, we expire. When we have a heart beat but is choking and can't get air in, we will pass. Therefore, learning how to maximize breathing will help bring in more oxygen so that your hemoglobin can have enough oxygen to distribute throughout the body. If you have sleep apnea, correct it. If you're only shallow breathing, correct it. If you're always anxious, correct it. Find ways to further help yourself so you can heal maximally.
4. Managing chronic diseases is a given but must be said. When disease are not well managed then your body will most likely be sympathetic dominant. Being constantly in sympathetic (fight or flight) mode will be harder for your body to heal.
5. EVERYONE HAS STRESS. Some have more stress than others. Some handle their stress better than others. Trust me, learning how to create healthy boundaries and to know that you are worth it, does not happen overnight. If there are unnecessary stressors, cut off ties with them. For those stressors that you can't control, you must find ways to manage how you respond to the stressors.
6. Be positive. Mindset is everything! You are exactly what you tell yourself. You do exactly what your capable of based on your mindset. You are the only person, the gatekeeper, to your own healing and happiness. We can only guide you. You must be the one to allow yourself to know that you are deserving. You must have enough self love, self respect, and self worth to think and be positive.
If you've read this far, then I know you are also looking to heal. I have 6 openings for a case review and to bring on 6 serious clients who wants to reach maximum healing. You get to work one on one with me to identify your root problems, to cultivate a mindset that is beyond what you could imagine, to correct deficiencies and excesses, and to reach maximum healing. This is only for those who are serious and willing to put in the work. It's not easy but it's absolutely doable if you want it enough! I've had success with many clients and I believe that everyone has the potential to unlock their healing powers. You just have to believe that you can do it!

Celery
Latin name Apium graveolens
The medicinal part of this plant are the seeds. It is a diuretic, sedative nervine, carminative, and anti-inflammatory.
The alkaloids in the seeds have a tranquilizing effect on the central nervous system. This is helpful for when you have restlessness and spasmodic muscle tension.
This herb also benefits the musculoskeletal system such as in conditions such as arthritis (especially in those with autoimmune arthritis) and gout. In the kidney and bladder system, the celery seeds can stimulate uric acid secretion out of the body. It should definitely be thought of when you have sluggish kidney function. It can also help to strengthen the bladder wall especially when combined with an herb called Equisetum spp.
It is an alkalinizing herb and because of this action, it should be thought of for cervical mucous that is too acidic.
To take it, you will need about 90 mL of fresh seed juice or tea per day. If you make an infusion (tea), you'll need 1-4 g/day.
Apium does have volatile oils that are irritating, therefore, you must not use it in acute kidney conditions. It should also be avoided during pregnancy. Because it is high in sodium, you should be monitored if you already have hypertension or edema.
Because of these contraindications and cautions, please work directly with an herbalist to ensure your safety in using it.

Chinese Medicine New Year Giveaway by Nicholas. Hosted by KingSumo Giveaways
Hello!
I have created this video to share with everyone who is Hmong speaking. There are some who are familiar with my clinic here in Hickory and some who do not know about my clinic.
I am a Naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist, and herbalist. I opened up Catawba Natural Healing in 2018. Prior to this I was practicing in Washington state as a primary care physician, acupuncturist and herbalist.
The root of all diseases should never be overlooked because if it does, then true healing can't occur. For some, this process can happen within 6 months. However, for the majority, this process can take a minimum of 12 months. I see many people who have complex diseases. They health is managed by their primary care doctor, specialists, and me.
I believe that with commitment and determination, you will be able to return back to a state of health where you feel your best. If you're looking for quick relief with very little commitment, then this isn't the type of medicine for you. However, if you have the commitment and determination to achieve long term results that are sustainable, you are in the right place. I encourage you to complete your forms so that we can get started on your path to healing.
You can find the forms here:

D**g quai
Latin name: Angelica sinensis
A very common Chinese herb. It is native to China, Korea, and Japan. The root of this plant is commonly used. In Chinese medicine we say that this herb tonifies the blood and regulates your menstrual cycle. It can also relieve painful me**es and chronic pelvic pain. Those with infertility may benefit from the use of this herb since it regulates menstruation especially in those with no cycles. It also invigorates and harmonizes your blood. In a study of infertility, d**g quai showed beneficial results with uterine irrigation. It can also moisten your intestines, thus helping improve constipation that is due to blood deficiency.
This herb also has antibacterial activity and can also inhibit the production of IgE. IgE antibodies are released in high numbers by your immune system when you come in contact with an allergen. These antibodies travel to cells and then release chemicals which causes an allergic reaction.
D**g quai is high in folic acid and vitamin B12. Therefore, those with macrocyctic anemia would benefit from this herb.
This herb is safe to use long term. To make a decoction, you'll need 3-15 grams of the dried root daily.
There are contraindications with the use of this herb, therefore, please consult with an herbalist if you plan on using it.

Calf pain
A serious health problem that could cause calf pain is a deep vein thrombosis also known as DVT. This is basically a blood clot that is in a deep vein, mainly in the lower extremity, and is usually one sided. DVTs can develop in the legs if you do not move for a long time. DVTs can be dangerous because if the blood clot gets loose, it can travel through your bloodstream and get stuck in your lungs.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) symptoms can include:
*Leg swelling
*Leg pain, cramping or soreness that often starts in the calf
*Change in skin color on the leg — such as red or purple, depending on the color of your skin
*A feeling of warmth on the affected leg
If you develop these symptoms, call your doctor and get assessed to rule out DVT.
If DVT is ruled out, then the calf pain and swelling may be due to a less serious condition and we have time to figure out what exactly could be going on.
Muscle tension? Tension headaches?
I commonly see neck pain and shoulder pain occurring together. Many of the times, it's from your posture. Correcting your posture, performing exercises to relax and stretch certain muscle groups, as well as getting regular massages are crucial to helping you get neck pain relief or any other muscular tension relief.
I offer tui na services (Chinese massage) to those that I feel would benefit from it. In our sessions together, I'll discuss about how you can help yourself to prevent it from happening so frequently.
Many times throughout tui na sessions, my patients find out that they have pain elsewhere in their body and didn't realize that it's all connected. Tui na sessions do not require you to have a first appointment as a case review. Therefore, if you're interested in getting your tui na session booked, send me a message.
Marshmallow
Latin name: Althea officinalis
The leaves and roots of this plant in harvested in the Fall. This plant is mucilaginous due to its large carbohydrate molecules. This makes it a great demulcent which will soothe and protect irritated mucous membranes. Althea is one of the most effective and safe herbal demulcents.
I commonly have it as a tea when there is inflamed digestive tract (even in acute stomach bug infection or diarrhea), sore throat, hoarseness of voice, and inflammation of the bladder or kidney. The root and the leaves are demulcent. The root has an affinity for the GI system while the leaves have an affinity for the respiratory and urinary systems. The root of this plant is also a diuretic. Due to its diuretic effects, it's great to use in genitourinary conditions.
To make an effective infusion of Althea you need 2-4 grams per cup of cold water. The mucilaginous component of plants are best extracted in a cold infusion. If you have the root, chop into pieces and place into cold water. Allowing it to steep overnight. Drink 1 cup, 3 times per day.
There are some contraindications to using Althea, therefore, please work directly with an herbalist before using this herb.

Have your doctor resorted to giving you cortisone injections to help improve your pain?
Have you already had the injection once and it worked but now you need a second one?
Have you already had the injection twice and the second time, it didn't work?
You may feel like your out of options BUT YOU ARE NOT OUT OF OPTIONS!
According to your doctor, you may be out of options. However, with Chinese medicine and Naturopathic medicine, you are just now have an array of options to choose. Many of the times, the options include addressing the underlying cause of why you experience pain.
If you've had chronic pain then it may take time to fully address the underlying cause. With every patient, I always ask that the patient set achievable goals. With the goals in mind, I ask for your commitment so that you can be consistent and reach your goals.

Tail bone injury? Sacral Pain?
Did you know that even an old tail bone injury can lead to problems later on in life?
Initially you may feel like you're doing okay and that it wasn't that bad. However, if you're lucky enough, you'll start to feel pain early enough which then leads you to addressing the problem. If you're not lucky enough, you'll have problems much later down the road. By that time, you won't make the connection that your sacral pain or lower extremity problems have anything to do with the fall and injury to your tail bone.
Tail bone pain or sacral pain can be effectively addressed by using a combination of 3 therapies: Electroacupuncture, Tui na, and Chinese botanical medicine.
Don't live with sacral pain any longer. Send me a message and let's get started on getting you in for your assessment and treatment.
Have you been feeling like you can't take in a deep breath or are you having shortness of breath?
Your body is trying to tell you something. Commonly, western doctors will provide you some combination of antibiotic, steroid, and pain medication. However, in Chinese Medicine, we look at this differently. There can be multiple reasons why you do have respiratory symptoms. Within your first appointment, I'll be able to determine why you are having your symptoms and be able to address you appropriately with electroacupuncture and Chinese botanical medicine. The combination of these 2 therapies will help to improve your symptoms and address the underlying cause of why it began.
So, don't wait any longer. Get started by messaging me now.
Licorice
Latin name: Glycyrhizza glabra
This is a very common herb used in Chinese botanical medicine. The root of this plant is used medicinally. Did you know that its triterpene saponins have Glycyrrhizin that is intensely sweet. It's 50-170 times sweeter than sugar!
Two of the most important constituents of licorice are glycyrrhizin and he flavonoids. Glycyrrhizin is anti-inflammatory and the flavonoids help liver cells heal as well as be very potent antioxidants to protect the liver cells. Research has shown that the flavonoids were effective in killing H. pylori. H. pylori commonly causes stomach ulcers and stomach inflammation.
Glycyrrhetic acid, another constituent of licorice, has the ability to inhibit viral growth. It has been found to be effective against a number of viruses.
Topically, both glycyrrhizin and glycyrrhetic acid has antiviral properties against herpes and shingles. However, internally, only glycyrrhetic acid has the antiviral properties.
This herb is commonly used as an adrenal tonic.
There are several cautions and contraindications with the use of licorice therefore, you must seek a professional if you would like to use this herb.

Chickweed
Latin name: Stellaria media
Identifying: It has many small oval leaves and tiny star-like white flowers that bloom in the late winter through spring. Chickweed grows no more than an inch or so tall and sprawls outwards by at least a foot and likes to clump with other plants.
It is best in colder climates growing in moist, rich soil, in a partially shaded location. Chickweed is a ground covering herb that grows low and spreads quickly.
Eating: It contains minerals and vitamins, making it a favorite for adding to meals or salads. Leaves can also be collected and dried for making teas.
Pharmacy: Research indicates that chickweed have metabolites such as flavonoid, oligosaccharide stellariose, anthraquinone derivatives, fatty acid, steroid saponins and phenolic compounds. These bioactive metabolites are anti-obesity, antifungal, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antidiabetic and anxiolytic activities.

Let's talk about frequency setting for electroacupuncture!
Earlier this week I discussed about the intensity of electroacupuncture. Today, I would like to shift my focus to the different frequencies that can be used to provide the benefits that we need.
One reason I love electroacupuncture is because I am able to provide electricity to the body with specific frequencies allowing me to control the release of certain neurotransmitters, chemicals, or hormones. Through this you can heal naturally.
Here are examples of some of the frequencies that can be accomplished using electroacupuncture.
* 2-4 Hz provides beta-endorphins and ACTH
* 150 Hz provides norepinephrine/noradrenaline
* 200 Hz provides serotonin
Using specific frequencies at very specific time lengths can switch your body into healing mode as well as balance your parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system. Majority of clients who come to see more are in sympathetic dominance and so it's crucial to utilize electroacupuncture to balance their nervous system.
If you're wondering if electroacupuncture can be right for you, send me a message and let's talk about it.
Electroacupuncture is performed by using specific points with specific frequencies and intensities.
Let's talk intensity! When someone comes in with pain, I have to determine which intensity to use. Many think...the more the better! Actually, no. More doesn't mean better. The intensity needs to be adjusted. Your body can acclimate to the stimulation and I'll need to turn it up ever so slightly again.
If you're experiencing a high level of pain, the intensity of your treatment needs to be set to low. This is where you mildly feel the stimulation. If you're experiencing a low level of pain, your intensity needs to be set at high. And of course, if you're experiencing a moderate amount of pain, your intensity should be set to medium.
At no point, whether high, medium, or low should you experience any pain with stimulation. If you do, you HAVE to let me know because that creates an opposite effect of what we are trying to accomplish.
Many of my patients come in and calls it their nap time :) That's actually pretty good. It tells me that the treatment is comfortable enough that they can actually fall asleep.
