This has been a difficult couple of days but I want to honor a client, a friend who quickly became family.
Scott Shafer hired me in 2019. He found me through Palliative Care and had a stroke and was needing care in his home. As mutual northers, we clicked immediately! Scott did not have family in NC but he had friends who loved him dearly. He became part of my family and spent holidays, vacations and any meaningful day celebrating with us! We became "his people" and he was loved! For many years it was just me caring for Scott Mainly because he would only listen and behave for me..LOL. He lived for me to cook for him and would often request certain dishes. Even as a diabetic, his love for sweets had to be monitored but you could bribe him with a chocolate chip cookie at any time! Over the last 18 months his health declined. It was difficult to watch someone you love fight so hard to be who they were, but Scott had a fire inside and a determination like no other and he tried so hard to get better. Myself, my family, his caregivers, his friends all kept him encouraged and engaged! I think sometimes he worried more about me than himself. But I still pushed him beyond what he thought he could do, I became his voice advocated for him until the end. He knows how much I loved him,he knew I would do anything to care for him and I knew what was in his heart because I was there for him when no one else was! So I am posting this because I lost my friend, my family member on July 3rd and I want to honor his memory. I want everyone to know Scott loved hard. He was quick to get angry but would quickly apologize, he was a giving caring soul who was loved by so many. The world lost a good one and heaven gained a cookie lovin, s**t talkin Jersey Boy who found his people in NC and will be dearly missed by so many...my heart is shattered but at least I know you are not suffering anymore. You can rest easy now Scotty, keep watching over us and please behave in heaven!
Love you beyond the stars, Kelly💔(Peaches)
