At what age should I begin to worry about smaller print being blurry?
This is a second part of the last question.
Let’s talk about what causes small print to become blurry first and then we will talk about age. In the simplest of terms, the lens of the eye loses its elasticity as it was when you were young. When you look down, your eyes converge about 1.5 millimeters each eye and your lens will get thicker (think of a magnifying glass here). This creates more magnification and makes words larger. This is called, accommodation.
So, when do most people have this life changing event? The most common age that is talked about is 40 years old. Some people need help with accommodation before 40 but most can make it to 45 to 50 years old. How do they do that? Light! The more light you have on the object you are trying to read, the easier it is to see words. You can prolong having to get bi-focals or progressives with bright light and by pushing the item you are reading out further from your eyes. Some people will say, “my arms aren’t long enough anymore!” This is normal and part of aging.
What can we do for you at Jabi Optics? We offer the lowest price on progressives that aren’t made outside the U.S. All our progressives come out of a lab in Mississippi. Progressive lenses are like TV’s and any other technology that gets better over time. Most optical retailers give you old technology so they get the lenses cheaper and can have a high margin. At Jabi, we get the latest technology so you can see your best. We use a digital lens (some call these HD lenses) that makes new wearers more comfortable while adapting to lenses. We do all of this at a low price so you can have more spending money for gas, groceries, more glasses for different looks or just to put some money back for a rainy day. We are here to help you and believe that sight should be a right!
