🤢 Stomach Bug Is Going Around — Here’s How to Protect Your Home
Important information from CDC-supported guidelines from your neighborhood pharmacist at Caring Pharmacy!🩺
There’s a strong wave of the stomach virus (Norovirus) moving through our community right now, and we want to help you stay healthy and keep your family safe. Below are the official CDC-supported cleaning and prevention steps you can use.:
🧬Norovirus spreads extremely fast — especially in homes, schools, daycares, restaurants, and workplaces. Tiny particles can make someone sick, and people remain contagious for days after they feel better.
♦️ Disinfecting Surfaces:
Wash frequently touched surfaces with warm, soapy water, then rinse with clean water. Dry the area with paper towels and immediately throw them away. Even though a surface may look clean, germs can still remain — so cleaning is only the first step.
♦️ Disinfect With a Bleach Solution:
Regular household cleaners don’t kill norovirus. To disinfect effectively, mix 1/3 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water. This recommended concentration kills norovirus when applied to surfaces and allowed to air dry. For surfaces used for food preparation, rinse thoroughly with clean water afterward.
♦️ Handwashing Is Your Strongest Defense:
Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is the most effective way to protect yourself. Wash after using the bathroom, changing diapers, before eating, and especially after cleaning contaminated areas. Norovirus is NOT removed by alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
♦️Contaminated Fabrics:
Wash soiled clothes, towels, and bedding immediately using hot water and detergent. Do NOT shake items, as this can spread the virus into the air and onto cleaned surfaces.
☑️People can still spread norovirus for up to three days after symptoms stop. Keep kids home, avoid preparing food for others, and continue cleaning and disinfecting shared spaces during this recovery window.
