Boofing, sometimes called b***y bumping, hooping, or plugging, is a way some people use drugs by inserting them into the re**um.

People may choose this method because it can reduce some of the harms associated with injecting, smoking, or snorting substances, and it may allow time for veins or other parts of the body to heal.

Harm reduction is about meeting people where they are and sharing information that helps people make safer choices.

If you have questions about safer use practices, overdose prevention, or other harm reduction resources, our Prevention team is here to help.

Visit viventhealth.org/ypsilanti or call 734-572-9355 to learn more about our services.

Today we recognize Black Balloon Day.

A day to remember the lives lost to substance use disorder and overdose. A day to honor families, friends, and communities carrying grief. A day to recommit to compassion.

Substance use disorder is a medical condition. It is not a moral failure.

Stigma keeps people silent. Silence keeps people from care. And barriers to care cost lives.

We honor those we have lost by continuing the work. Expanding harm reduction. Increasing access to treatment. Distributing naloxone. Meeting people where they are.

If you or someone you love is struggling, you are not alone. Support is available.

Carfentanil has been identified in Michigan’s drug supply.

It is extremely potent. But overdose is preventable.

Carry naloxone. Layer harm reduction strategies. Do not use alone. Learn rescue breathing.

If you need naloxone or safer use supplies, contact Vivent Health

We keep our community alive by staying informed and looking out for one another.

Yesterday, March 1, was Zero Discrimination Day.

This day is a global reminder that stigma and unfair treatment harm real people and real communities. Discrimination based on health status, race, gender identity, s*xual orientation, income, disability, or drug use creates barriers to care and fuels inequity.

Ending discrimination is not just about fairness. It is about health. It is about dignity.

We remain committed to creating spaces where everyone is treated with respect and has access to the care they deserve.

In more than 30 U.S. states, people can face criminal charges simply because they are living with HIV.

These laws do not reflect modern science. We know that people on treatment with an undetectable viral load cannot transmit HIV through s*x. Yet HIV criminalization laws still increase charges or penalties based solely on a person’s HIV status.

Criminalization fuels stigma.
Stigma keeps people from testing and care.
And that harms public health.

Today, we listen to, support, and amplify the voices of people who have been criminalized because of their HIV status.

HIV is a health issue. Not a crime.

An HIV diagnosis can feel overwhelming.

For many people, it comes with fear, grief, and uncertainty. But it is not the end of your story.

With treatment, people living with HIV can live long, healthy lives. With support, counseling, and community, healing is possible. And with an undetectable viral load, HIV cannot be passed to s*xual partners.

There is life after an HIV diagnosis.

If you or someone you know has recently been diagnosed, you do not have to navigate it alone. Our team is here to provide medical care, emotional support, and prevention services without judgment.

Condoms work.
But only if you use them correctly.

Quick refresher:

Open the package with your hands.

Make sure it’s right side out.

Pinch the tip and roll it all the way down.

Use a new condom every time. Add water-based or silicone l**e to reduce breakage.

Condoms reduce the risk of HIV and other STIs, but regular testing still matters. PrEP is another powerful prevention option.

Need free condoms or testing? Visit one of our locations this week.

Did you know?

U = U means Undetectable = Untransmittable.

When a person living with HIV is on treatment and maintains an undetectable viral load, they cannot transmit HIV through s*x.

This is not a slogan. It is backed by years of global research involving thousands of couples.

HIV treatment does more than protect your health. It protects your partners, too.

U = U reduces stigma.
U = U supports healthy relationships.
U = U saves lives.

If you are living with HIV, staying in care and taking your medication as prescribed is powerful prevention.

If you are HIV-negative, regular testing and prevention options like PrEP can help you stay negative.

Naloxone saves lives. Full stop.

An opioid overdose can happen anywhere. At home. In a car. At a party. On the street. Knowing what to do in those first few minutes can mean the difference between life and death.

Swipe through this guide to learn:

• How to use nasal naloxone (Narcan)
• How to use intramuscular naloxone
• What to do after you give a dose

If someone is not breathing, breathing very slowly, or cannot be woken up:

Call 911.

Give naloxone.

Stay with them.

You may need to give more than one dose. Rescue breaths are critical. Always place the person on their side after administering in case they vomit.

Naloxone is safe, easy to use, and legal to carry in Michigan. It will not harm someone if opioids are not present. When in doubt, use it.

Want free naloxone or overdose prevention training? Visit one of our harm reduction locations this week or check the link in our bio.

Let’s keep our community alive.
