October is Sensory Processing Awareness Month. 🖐️👂👀👃👅

Sensory Processing Disorder can be experienced on its own, but is more often a co-occurring condition that is experienced by the neurodivergent population. It is more often discussed in children, but adults experience it as well.

"Sensory processing disorder causes difficulties with balance, body awareness, and processing of information from your senses. These effects can make daily tasks and social interactions challenging." - Traci Pederson

This article from Healthline Media discusses in more detail how sensory processing disorder affects adults.

While SPD is not an official disorder, it is a part of other disorders. Managing SPD symptoms can lead to better quality of life overall.

One of the biggest challenges of neurodivergent adults once they get hired is dealing with executive function challenges. Some of these include choosing priorities, missing deadlines, procrastination, dealing with interruptions, handling verbal instructions, losing things, distractions, reading and understanding material, and remembering names and numbers.

"Over the last 10 to 15 years educators and researchers discovered that executive skills have a profound impact not only on academic success, but also success in the workplace. In fact, researchers report that one particular executive skill, working memory, is a better predictor of academic success than an IQ score. Executive functions have been likened to the CEO of the brain or the conductor of the orchestra; these functions help control your thinking and actions." - Lauren Clouser, Learning Disabilities Association of America

At Aspiritech, our supportive employment model helps ND staff members learn to manage these struggles (and more) when they arise.

This article gives some helpful tips on how to manage some of the most common executive function challenges.

October is Cybersecurity Month! Prerana Madhira, Manager and Instructor of Aspiritech’s Cybersecurity Academy, shared some best practices for keeping your digital world a little safer: 👨‍💻👩‍💻💻

The strongest firewall isn’t your computer.
It’s still your brain.

A few quick (and slightly shocking) facts to keep those cyber-senses sharp:

91% of cyberattacks start with an email. That “urgent” link in your inbox? Probably a trap. Always pause before you click—curiosity is great for cats, not credentials.

Ransomware strikes every 11 seconds. One good backup can turn a disaster into a shrug. If it’s important, save it twice. If it’s priceless, store it offline.

Password reuse = hacker jackpot. If one account gets breached, all your others can follow.

This month (and every month):
Update. Backup. Think before you click.

Small habits protect big things—your data, your team, and your peace of mind.

Happy Diwali to those who celebrate! 🔥

"Deepavali or Diwali is known as the “Festival of Lights” and is a Hindu holiday widely celebrated in India, in South Asia, and across the Hindu diaspora.

The word ‘Deepavali’ derives from Sanskrit and means “row of lights.” Festivities include the illumination of lights, candles, firecrackers, and diya (clay lamps) to symbolize the victory of good over evil, inner light over spiritual darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali is a time for gathering with loved ones, celebrating life, and committing to making the right decisions in life." - Hindu American Foundation
