There is nothing wrong with nursing to sleep. Even a very large baby is still a baby. Your milk is designed to promote sleepiness and you may as well take advantage of it. You are not spoiling your baby. You are creating a loving safe path to sleep. While it's true that many children do not need to nurse to go to sleep, a few really do! Follow what feels right in your heart. You know your baby better than anyone.

You've been working so hard on breastfeeding. Pain directly impacts your feelings of confidence. Some breastfeeding relationships ARE rough for a long time. It's OK to take a break if you need a breather. It doesn't mean you failed. It means you are human and need to rest a minute.

What are some ways you can get some down time? Your baby is older now and can certainly spend some time with others, while you take some "ME time." For started, just think about what would help you to feel stronger and more confident?

Breastfeeding your baby to sleep is the calmest, easiest transition to sleep. Your milk contains tryptophan which makes you and your baby drowsy. Babies don't make their own melatonin for several months and breastmilk is important in creating a babies day/night cycling.
