Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS; also known as shin splints) involves discomfort and pain to the leg, owing to repetitive pressure. It is one of the most common overuse issues in runners and the community, affecting approximately 35% of athletes. According to military studies, shin splints are also the most common injury, with 4%-10% of recruits affected throughout their 8-12 weeks of basic training. Overuse injuries, such as MTSS, can affect up to 70% of runners in a year. Running and other sports, such as football and basketball and soccer, have been shown to have a high incidence of MTSS.

Although Sims & Associates Podiatry focuses on foot problems, oftentimes we can assist in diagnosing and treating shin splints to keep you running and in your sport.

Check out this awesome transformation for this crossover toe deformity. We performed a surgery where we realigned the bones and repaired the torn ligament. In just 6 weeks she is already back in her sneakers and doing great! This is what we do at Sims & Associates Podiatry! 👣
