Is it strawberry season yet?
I'm over winter. This week, we are above freezing, so I thought a walkthrough was in order. Not much to see because everything is dormant. The peach will need a little winter pruning. The fig was properly overwintered (bent and weighted to the ground and covered in a foot on mulch) for the first time, but the critters still found it. In the fall, I'll try again and cage the whole thing. There will be no figs this summer. Again.
Those little strawberry leaves, though. They're giving me hope.

Happy birthday, , seen here with the original Henry.

This is shaping up to be a lovely show. I've got 3 paintings featured, including How Does Your Garden Grow?, on the flyer. If you're local to NWI, come see me Friday night!

The thyme's looking swell, too. Strawberry season is pretty much over, but red raspberry season has just gotten started.

Indian Pink! Nearly impossible to get a semi-in-focus pic in this wind.
Also, I saw my first red admiral butterfly of the season after complaining last night about not seeing any yet this year. I learned recently that Pennsylvania pellitory is their host plant, and I usually rip that out because of the burrs. Needless to say, I've left every single one this year.

I'm in the back, picking strawberries (and a couple of early red raspberries) and thinking there's really nothing better than fresh picked strawberries warmed by the sun.

And then I saw this.

My tiny little American cranberry is blooming! Holy cow! The dream is: one day, I will be able to make cranberry sauce from the yard. That day is still far in the future because there are only 2 blossoms, but the dream just got closer!
