Denver Action Week 2025!

This year we celebrated more than milestones: we celebrated the culture that makes Denver so special. Many of our teammates came from teaching or other fields, discovering their calling in one-on-one therapy with children. What they’ve found here is more than a job: it’s growth, mentorship, and a team that truly cares.

“ABC cares. We care about the kids, but we also care about each other. That’s really our culture here. Every kid belongs, every kid is seen. It’s rewarding to know we play such a pivotal role in their lives.” - Gretchen Burnette, BCBA

In Denver, no one walks alone. Teammates are supported with continuous feedback, strong leadership, and opportunities to grow into confident clinicians and leaders. And at the center of it all: the kids. Every child is seen, celebrated, and loved just as they are.

Thank you, Denver, for reminding us why we do this work: to help children thrive and to grow together as . 💙

We are excited to unveil our new webpage that highlights patient outcomes for children attending Action Behavior Centers. Through the implementation of individualized treatment plans, utilizing evidence-based therapy methods, we aim to help children access their world as fully as possible. Last July, during our annual Leadership Summit, we announced an exciting new program held in coordination with the Global Autism Project called Action Abroad.

This program provides ABC teammates with the opportunity to be endorsed in their applications to join the esteemed GAP Skill Corps. Our nominees have been selected carefully from our panel based on performance, tenure, and positive impact within their centers.

Introducing our first highlight: Chelsea Zawadzki, BCBA of East Pflugerville!

Chelsea Zawadzki is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst situated in the North Austin Region. Since October 2022, she has held the BCBA designation. Before her tenure at Action Behavior Centers, Chelsea worked in a research environment. Presently, her focus lies on working with children predominantly aged between 2 to 8 years old.

Throughout her career, Chelsea has engaged with a diverse array of families, including many who have relocated to the United States from countries where autism support is limited. Her aspiration is to journey to another nation, seeking to enhance her cultural understanding and professional development. Chelsea believes that this experience will enable her to better serve all families she encounters as a clinician.

Visit her LinkedIn profile (Chelsea Zawadzki) for more details on how to support her journey!

Our 2024 Leaders in Action series has kicked off with intentional programming developed by our Director of Leadership Development, Terry Hayden!

Our Operations Managers and Clinical Directors engaged in two days of transformational leadership development through this immersive experience. We piloted and launched this program with insights from each market and regional leadership team.

Hosted by our PS-Ops training team at HQ, this was a time to pause, reflect, and elevate each leader's journey alongside peers from diverse markets.

Mari Patereau, CD, writes, "Last week I got to spend 2.5 days with these amazing clinical directors and operations managers learning all about improving leadership skills and being a better communicator. I’m grateful for a company that sees value in learning and pouring into employees."

From self-awareness to navigating change and fostering relationships, we geared up to level up our leadership game!

We're thrilled and honored to have Dr. Shahla Alai-Rosales, Ph.D, BCBA-D, CPBA-AP speaking at this year's ABCaba conference!

Her topic of discussion will be on "Cooking Metaphors from an Old Chef: Clinical Expertise and Supervision in Applied Behavior Analysis".

As supervisors in behavior analysis, our overall goal is to contribute to healthy, caring, and expansive conditions for individuals and groups within our intervention systems. The purpose of this presentation is to highlight and discuss three areas that may positively influence our attainment of this goal: 1) understanding and developing clinical expertise; 2) developing a humble posture of ongoing learning; and, 3) focusing on communal and reflective supervisory practices and how they relate to relationship development, shared purpose and postures of learning. Our field and the world are undergoing dramatic, and sometimes confusing, changes. How we continue to learn and dynamically respond to need and purpose is an important component of developing meaningful expertise. The presentation will include rationales, descriptions, measurement considerations, and practical suggestions to further our collective leadership efforts.

Join us as we delve into the transformative power of learning, supervision, and relationship building in shaping a brighter future for ABA.

Scott Carter, Clinic Admissions Associate of Bee Cave, shares what means to him.

"When I started as an RBT I knew I wanted to be a CAA! I wasn't sure how I would get there, but immediately my BCBA and OM let me know that they would help and support my journey there. The best tip I have for good mental health in all you do is having a strong support system that can come alongside you with advice and instruction to achieve your goals as well as offering you an outside perspective when things around you get a little heavy. Another amazing tip I got was from my BCBA. Instead of waiting until I'm facing burnout to schedule a mental health day, planning them out in advance every few months or so means I've already gifted myself a day where I can take time off and truly relax with what I want to do! Having these days to look forward to is such a good practice in I feel like I'm having a hard day or week. ."

Thank you for sharing your tips, Scott! We're inspired by your path to personal development.

Fun in Action!

Mahalia Perry was awarded our Core Value of Fun pin last week! At Action, "fun" is an important aspect in our environment. We believe this to be true as it reflects on both our employees and children. Mahalia has been able to embracing a fun-loving spirit and encourages others to do the same. She creates a more vibrant and enjoyable workplace culture that promotes creativity, collaboration, and engagement.

Rachel Callicutt writes, "Mahalia truly exemplifies all things FUN!! She was the first person to greet me on my first day with the warmest smile and the highest level of energy. She makes therapy fun but constantly engaging with ALL kiddos, not just her own. She keeps interactions with team members super fun by always offering laughs and jokes!! She has also improved on doing the parts of her job that aren't as "FUN" by trying to bring fun to even the not fun parts of the job!!! Mahalia is always down for a good playlist and dance party and provides creative and fun learning opportunities for the whole clinic!!!! Thanks for being SO MUCH FUN, Mahalia!!"

Mahalia, we appreciate your light! You dedication, talent, and positive attitude don't go unnoticed.
