Satya may be one of the hardest Yamas to practice out of all of them! Our experiences, our upbrings, our beliefs, and our desires all distort our version of reality. Not only what is in front of us, but also what is within us. Our intentions and our highest truths can be distorted by everything we have experienced and believed up until this very moment.

So with Satya we have to practice removing all of that so we don't judge what is, including our own intentions. We could be doing something that on the surface seems kind, but our intentions are not.

Satya also asks us to be honest to ourselves and others without being silent and without twisting the truth compassionately.

Satya is the base of most communication we have with ourselves and with the world.

Even though Satya may be one of the most challenging Yamas, remember practice is not about achieving perfection, is only practice.

But never forget!

The only requirement is to show up.

You could do one thing or some things.

For 5 minutes.
For one pose.
For one conscience breath.
For one moment of awareness.
For one chant in the car.
For that split second where you remembered Satya and tried it.

No one said yoga only mattered if you woke up at 3am and practiced facing the sun for 2 hours the day you decided to start yoga.

Yoga is a journey and your journey, my journey, your neighbors journey, the journey of all the IG yogis you follow...they will all be different as long as you live.

But the only difference between practicing yoga and not practicing yoga is practice. ♥️

Private yoga is different to teach.

Instead of planning a yoga class based on a peak pose or a yoga class with a theme, I teach based on the needs of the student in front of me that day.

I do have something in mind heading into a private session, but Im always prepared to throw it out because 60% of the time I do.

We have hard days at work.
We slept funny.
We pulled a muscle yesterday gardening.
We know we are going to have a long day tomorrow.

Private yoga is about the student as an individual that takes into account their personal needs rather than a generic plan that may or may not resonate with everyone in a class.

We can push for a cardio intensive session or we can release stress and find calm during a hectic time.

As a yoga teacher, private yoga really allows me to get to know my students and be a witness and a guide to their yoga journey.

We work on awareness, finding the comfortable edge between a challenge and ease, and being graceful on our tough days.

It's such a beautiful teaching experience I am so grateful for.

May the fourth be with you!

Have you noticed the similarities between Star Wars and yoga?

Maybe you already have, but if you haven't it's pretty neat!

The biggest one they share is connecting to life energy. Yoga calls it Prana and Star Wars calls it the Force.

Through out all the books and movies you can also find similarities between the yoga limbs and what the Jedis learn!
