Trouble with digestion? In East Asian medicine, we often discuss the connection between physical and mental/emotional digestion. When someone has trouble with physical digestion, we also ask, "How well are you able to take in new ideas and feelings, process them, and let go of what you do not need?" Mental and physical digestion are often intertwined. SP 3 can be pressed to help clarify the mind and regulate all digestive functions. Locate it by running your finger along the inside of the big toe until it falls into a divot at the proximal side of the joint. If you need it, it is probably tender to the touch! Press and hold for 30 seconds. This is great acupressure at the beginning of a meditation and easily accessed while cross-legged or in half-lotus. Happy digestion!

Next in our Acupressure series: Large Intestine 4 " He Gu". Located at the highest point in the muscle when the thumb and index finger are pressed together. Relax your hand and apply pressure to this area for 4-5 seconds. It is commonly used to descend energy down, aiding in reducing stress, overthinking, headaches, toothache, facial pain, and neck pain.

Acupressure can be applied to these two points daily to calm the mind, increase memory, before bed for insomnia, or to decrease hypertension and headaches.
HT 7 is located on the wrist crease at the base of the pinky finger. Press and hold gently while taking slow, deep breaths. Simultaneously put your bare feet on the ground outdoors to activate KD 1 using the electromagnetic frequency of the Earth or if indoors, use a small marble to stimulate the point. Smile and enjoy a 3-9 minute meditation!

Auricular Shen Men has a calming effect and can alleviate anxiety and promote overall wellness and longevity. It is also indicated for pain and inflammation and is widely used in the treatment of addictions. Stimulate this point by pinching the top of the ear between the thumb and pointer finger and massage it gently for 1-2 minutes while taking deep, slow breaths.

On average, people get the most out of their treatments using a three step approach. These three steps include Relief Care, Corrective Care, and Maintenance Care. Typically with Relief Care, visits can be once or multiple times per week to promote healing and recovery.
With Corrective Care, visits are less frequent as you begin to feel better. Finally, for Maintenance, monthly tune-ups are generally recommended to maintain health & vitality.
Recommended frequency can also increase or decrease under certain situations or seasons, depending on what the focus is for your care. One of the neat things about acupuncture is that after having acupuncture for a series of treatments, the body learns what is most uniquely effective for you and alerts you when you need another treatment. Listen to it!

Common Cold or Allergies?! Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish!

Many people have been coming in in the past few weeks with one or both and with the beautiful summer weather, it is hard to believe, however, cold and flu season is still among us! Having allergy symptoms and a weakened immune system can also make an opportunistic environment for a virus to manifest. So it is important to take care of your allergies when you first show signs. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and NAET allergy elimination technique are all wonderful and natural ways to build the immune system and make long term changes to allergic responses.

Acupuncture and Fertility

Spring is a wonderful time of year where we have the opportunity to observe the power that nature has to resiliently emerge from the winter season in order to experience rebirth and fresh growth. There seems to be an ease and inevitability to fertility in the natural world. And I like to remind my patients that that potential also exists within us humans. Acupuncture can aid the body in reaching and returning to a state of harmony and balance, where fertility is possible. Specifically, in terms of physical fertility, acupuncture can promote blood flow to the uterus and s*x organs, balance hormones, reduce stress, optimize the health and vitality of the reproductive cells, and promote healthy embryonic development.
Acupuncture can also promote mental and emotional fertility! I believe that we all strive, on some level, to continue to learn new things, and have rebirth to a deeper understanding of who we are and our unique gifts that we have to share with the world. This is the perfect time of year to experience your own fertility and potential with an acupuncture treatment!

Happy Spring!

Fire Cupping uses fire to create a suction in a glass “cup” that is then applied to the skin. This negative pressure pulls muscles and tissue up and away from the attachments, allowing them to relax, and creates a similar effect as a deep massage. The cups are then left attached to the skin for a period of time (Stationary Cupping), removed and replaced rapidly (Flash Cupping), moved with the use of herbal oil (Gliding Cupping), or a combination of the three techniques is used. Treatment can focus on neck/shoulders/back, on the legs, or on the abdomen and is often indicated for muscle tension or adhesions, releasing toxins, promoting lymphatic flow, reducing cellulite, reducing scar tissue, or for weight loss.
Ask me at your next session if cupping is right for you! 😀
