A SANDY HOOK LOVE STORY: Brenna and Frank

Sandy Hook Beach Patrol creates long lasting friendships… and sometimes long lasting relationships! Over Labor Day weekend, Brenna Anderson (who worked from 2011-2018) and Frank Degnan (who worked from 2014-2020, 2024) tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony. Pictured are some other guards, past and current, who came to support the couple on their big day!

Happy Labor Day! Today marks the end of the 2025 season, with the lifeguards off duty until next year. Will we be seeing you on staff next year?

Here’s pictures of our full staff from the 2025 summer, female staff picture, male staff pyramid, and lieutenant lineup! And this season marks the last staff picture retired Captain Tom McLoughlin joins in from his 57 years of guarding! Stay safe and see you next season!

Swimming will be prohibited at all Gateway National Recreation Area beaches, including Sandy Hook, on Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21 due to the hazardous conditions expected from Hurricane Erin. While swimming is prohibited, the beach will remain open for visitors.

For any questions regarding Sandy Hook, please refer to the lifeguards!

SEA BRIGHT RELAYS PT I

Last week, the lifeguards competed in the Mike Hudson Memorial Relays hosted by . Our guards competed in several relay races such as a swim relay, run relay, paddle relay, and medley relay.

It was an honor and privilege for to compete in an exciting and competitive relay tournament in honor of Sea Bright’s late captain, Mike Hudson. Keep an eye out for more content from the tournament!

ALL WOMENS TOURNAMENT PT I

Last Monday, some of our lady lifeguards participated in the All Women’s Lifeguard Tournament in Deal. Events included a boat race, paddle relay, swim race, medley relay, rescue relay, and run relay.

We had a lot of supporters come to watch the lady lifeguards show off their skills, included retired 531 Captain Tom McLoughlin!

This past Sunday was our third and final Timed Event of the Sunday Series: Timed Swim!

For those not familiar, every Sunday the staff alternates between a Timed Run, Timed Paddle, and Timed Swim. Lifeguards race in heats of friendly competition to see who comes out on top.

For the swim, a buoy is placed in the ocean where the guards must go south to north around it and run back in across the finish line. Swipe to the end of the post to see a video showing just how close the race can be!

Allenhurst Tournament Part III!

Last Thursday some of the guards participated in the Allenhurst Lifeguard Tournament!

Tournament events included a boat relay, line pull, paddle relay, medley relay, and beach flags. We also want to give a huge thank you to the fellow guards who came to cheer their friends and family on. Check back tomorrow for some more content from the tournament!

This past Sunday was our second Timed Event: Timed Run!

For those not familiar, every Sunday staff alternates between a time run, time to swim, and time paddle. Lifeguards race and hits a friendly competition to see who comes out on top. If you happen to see us, take pictures and make sure to tag when you post!

The guards ran about half a mile in the soft sand of the beach around a flag pole set up by 532 Woolson as a marker to turn and head back. Competition was close this year, swipe to see this Timed Run’s winner 536 Fitzgerald somersault finish!

Next Sunday will be the third Timed Event of the Sunday series, if you’re interested in joining up make sure to apply today! Applications remain open until August 22nd.
