🚨 APSHO Raises Alarm on Proposed Federal Loan Restrictions 🚨
The U.S. Department of Education is considering narrowing the definition of “professional degree programs,” which could limit student-loan access for NPs, PAs, CNSs, and other advanced practitioners.
This change threatens the oncology workforce at a time when cancer cases are rising. It would create barriers for students—especially those from rural and underrepresented communities—who rely on federal loans to pursue advanced practice education.
APSHO urges federal leaders to:
✅ Recognize NP, PA, and CNS programs as essential professional degrees
✅ Preserve financial aid for advanced practice students
✅ Assess workforce impact before policy changes
✅ Engage oncology societies in decision-making
✅ Protect diversity and rural access pathways
Restricting education access = restricting cancer care. APSHO stands committed to advocating for policies that sustain the oncology workforce and ensure equitable care for all patients.
