Karen Raden MS, RD, LD, CCN Karen's unique approach centers on her education and passion toward providing truly holistic health alongside mind-body techniques that support wellness.

Karen completed her Masters of Science degree in Nutrition from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington - considered the Harvard of holistic natural medicine by experts in the field. In addition to being a Registered/Licensed Dietitian and Certified Clinical Nutritionist, she holds a BA in Hotel Restaurant Management from Michigan State University and attended L'Ecole Hoteliere Summer Chef School in Lausanne, Switzerland. She completed a culinary internship at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago and managed various fine restaurants throughout the Chicago area. Karen is also a Reiki Master and has a great interest in the human energy system. As an integrative nutritionist, Karen "integrates" both alternative and conventional nutrition. She looks at the science behind health and healing by reviewing lab tests from a nutritional perspective. Drawing upon her training from Bastyr and over twenty years of experience, Karen can also recommend herbs, supplements, and functional medicine testing (i.e. saliva testing to determine cortisol levels, blood tests to look at vitamin status, etc.) With this process under way, Karen can then guide you in discovering and removing hidden obstacles that may show up as you move toward achieving your goals. Working with Karen, you get the most comprehensive approach toward looking at your health.

The cells in the lining of your lungs contain cellular receptors known as ACE-2 receptors. When the Coronavirus enters the body, it uses these ACE-2 receptors to attach to and enter your cells. It then begins replicating and spreading.

Because of this, some research is focusing on the use of angiotensin-receptor blockers – a class of compounds that block ACE-2 receptor sites in the treatment of Coronavirus.

This is intended to halt – or at the very least slow down – the virus’s ability to attach and enter the body. While prescription angiotensin blockers include drugs like Cozaar or Diovan, there are some natural compounds that exert angiotensin-receptor blocking effects such as:

πŸ‘‰ Potassium.
πŸ‘‰ Taurine.
πŸ‘‰ Resveratrol.
πŸ‘‰ Fiber.
πŸ‘‰ Garlic.
πŸ‘‰ Vitamin C.
πŸ‘‰ Vitamin B6.
πŸ‘‰ Coenzyme Q10.
πŸ‘‰ Celery.
πŸ‘‰ Gamma linoleic acid/dihomo-gamma-linoleic acid.

The use of angiotensin-receptor blockers in the treatment of Coronavirus is still in the very early stages and will require significantly more research to reveal it’s true efficacy.

Patients who are taking ACE inhibitors should discuss with their physician whether or not it is safe to remain on the drug if they contract Coronavirus.

Coronavirus is nothing to take lightly. Yes, some will get very sick from it. Keep in mind that people get sick from many things. Viruses can cause serious problems. To minimize your risk we recommend taking vitamin A (not beta carotene) 100,000 iu at the first sign of illness. Vitamin D 50,000 iu for 3 days, then take a break for a week and continue 5000 iu daily thereafter. As many of you know vitamin C is best given in IV form as it allows for much higher doses and also 100% absorption. Call us for patient specific recommendations as we have many options. Stay safe and healthy
