🚨🚨HELP WANTED…FROM THE ICE CREAM POLICE 🚨🚨

Dawson Place is on the hunt for an ice cream cooler/freezer for our dining room so our elders can have independent access to cold treats whenever the craving strikes. 🍦🍨🍧

Because honestly… nobody should have to ask for a popsicle. 😅

Our elders LOVE being able to choose their own sweet treat, whether it’s an ice cream sandwich, sherbet cup, drumstick, or “just one more” fudgesicle for the road. Having a freezer they can easily access helps give them independence, choice, and a little extra joy throughout the day.

Bonus: it also reduces the number of “Is it ice cream time yet?” questions by approximately 437 times a day. 😂

If you or someone you know has a gently used ice cream cooler/display freezer they’d be willing to donate or sell at a reasonable price, we’d love to hear from you!

Help us turn Dawson Place into the hottest little ice cream shop in town… ironically by keeping things frozen. 🍦❤️

From sweet treats and tea to smiles, laughter, and a little sparkle on the dance floor — our Mother’s Day celebration at Dawson Place was one to remember! 💐☕✨

Our elders enjoyed a beautiful Mother’s Day tea surrounded by friends, family, and plenty of love. The afternoon became even more special with a wonderful performer who danced for our audience and brought so much joy, entertainment, and smiles to the room. 💃

We also had our very own Dalton sing for everyone, and he absolutely stole hearts. And when one of our elders told him to wear her derby hat… Dalton knew better than to argue! 🤠😂 He proudly put it on and kept right on singing, giving everyone even more laughs and smiles.

Moments like these remind us that celebrations are not just about the event itself, but about creating memories, sharing stories, and making our mothers and mother figures feel truly cherished. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so meaningful for our Dawson Place family! 🌷❤️

Dawson Place has been BUSY and running on pure excitement, snacks, and probably a little caffeine😂

We started with the seniors doing their graduation walk-through, and our elders absolutely loved it! There were smiles, cheering, waves, and a few “Wait… weren’t you just in kindergarten?” comments. 🎓❤️

THEN, we rolled into Dawson Place becoming one of the official stops for the senior scavenger hunt. Nothing says “small town fun” quite like graduates running through Dawson while our elders supervise the chaos like professional event coordinators. 😂

And because apparently we weren’t done yet… we then celebrated Cinco de Mayo! The elders practiced their piñata skills, and let’s just say some of them were one good swing away from earning a spot on a softball team. That poor piñata learned real fast not to underestimate Dawson Place. 💥🤣

To say we have happy elders, tired staff, and making memories along the way is an understatement❤️

At Dawson Place we celebrated National Firefighters Day the best way we know how… with donuts, juice, big smiles, and enough Kentucky Derby hats to make Churchill Downs jealous. 🚒🍩👒

A huge THANK YOU to our firefighters and their assistants for all they do for our community!! Our elders absolutely loved the visit — although we’re pretty sure a few of the ladies were more focused on showing off their Derby hats than sharing the donuts. 😄

Between the laughter, stories, sweet treats, and fancy hats, it turned into quite the party. We may not have had horses running through the halls, but we definitely had some fast-moving elders when the donuts came out of the kitchen!

Thank you again to the brave men and women who serve and protect us every day. You made our day💕

Happy Nurses Week to the crew at Dawson Place who can pass meds, calm chaos, find missing hearing aids, solve mysteries, and still somehow remember who likes extra blankets and who hides snacks in their bedside table. 🩺❤️

Our nurses are part superhero, part counselor, part detective, part referee… and occasionally part waitress when someone “just needs one more cup of coffee.” ☕😂

But behind all the busy days, laughter, charting, and nonstop steps down the hallway, is a team with some of the biggest hearts around. The love and compassion they show our elders every single day does not go unnoticed. They celebrate the victories, comfort during the hard moments, and treat our elders like family.

At Dawson Place, our nurses don’t just provide care- they provide hugs, reassurance, laughter, patience, and dignity. And somehow they do it all while surviving on cold coffee and determination. 😉

To our amazing nursing team: thank you for every long shift, every late night, every smile, every kind word, and every moment you give to our elders. Dawson Place is better because of you. 💙

Dawson Place has been buzzing with fun this week! 🌸🏇

Our halls were filled with smiles as grade school kids delivered sweet May Day baskets to our elders — bringing sunshine, laughter, and a few happy tears along the way. Then it was time for the ladies to switch gears and get “Derby ready” by creating their fabulous Kentucky Derby hats. Flowers, ribbons, and a little friendly competition may have gotten involved! 👒🌺

From tiny hands spreading kindness to big personalities showing off their Derby fashion skills, these are the moments that make Dawson Place feel so special. We may not have made it to Churchill Downs, but we sure brought the Derby spirit right here to town! ❤️

There is something truly special about watching our own team members reach such meaningful milestones—graduating high school, earning their associate degrees and completing their LPN program. These aren’t just accomplishments… they are stories of long days, late nights, sacrifices, and unwavering determination.

We have had the privilege of seeing you grow—not only in your education, but in the kindness, compassion, and dedication you bring to our elders every single day. You don’t just work here… you make a difference here. And that is something no diploma can measure, but it means everything to those you care for.

Our elders have watched you study, encouraged you, asked about your classes, and beamed with pride right alongside you. You’ve given them so much, and now we get to celebrate YOU.

Dawson Place isn’t just a workplace—it’s a family. And today, our family is celebrating some truly incredible achievements.

We are so proud of you, so grateful for you, and so excited to see where life takes you next. No matter where your journey leads, you will always have a home here. 💛

Rainy, chilly days at Dawson Place just mean one thing… it’s time to gather the crew 💅🍿

Our elders traded in sunshine for a fingernail party, a mountain of popcorn and M&M’s, and a card game that got just a little competitive (okay… a lot 😄). There may have been some serious trash talk, a few “rule reminders,” and plenty of laughs echoing down the halls.

But in between the giggles and game faces, it’s these moments—sitting together, sharing stories, and just enjoying each other—that make days like this feel extra special.

Who needs sunshine when you’ve got this kind of warmth inside? ❤️

To the ones who run toward the fire while the rest of us are running away (and probably tripping over something)… we see you, we appreciate you, and honestly—we don’t know how you do it!

In your honor, we’re rolling out the real heroes of the day… donuts and coffee 🍩☕
(We figured putting out fires is hard enough—you shouldn’t have to make your own coffee too.)

There’s just something special about the joy that fills our halls this time of year. From the moment the high school students walk in, beaming with excitement and a little bit of nerves, showing off their prom attire like they’re on a runway—it truly lights up the entire building. You can’t help but smile watching the twirls, the proud poses, and hearing the sweet compliments being shared back and forth. It’s a beautiful reminder of how much happiness simple moments and connections can bring.

And of course, we never miss a chance to celebrate our own. Birthdays here aren’t just a day—they’re an event! Cake, ice cream, laughter, and maybe just a few jokes about staying forever young (we’ve got some pretty convincing 29-year-olds around here 😉).

To top it all off, we rolled up our sleeves and spent time together in the kitchen making homemade bierocks for supper. There may have been more flour on us than on the dough at times, but that just added to the fun. Nothing beats the smell of something homemade and the feeling of creating it side by side.

Moments like these—full of laughter, connection, and a little bit of chaos—are what make this place feel so much like home. ❤️
