2026 brings renewed hope for a stronger tomorrow.

Benjamin Cooper suffered a painful right ankle sprain while playing soccer, making it difficult to run, jump and kick the ball. He came to NovaCare Rehabilitation in Williamstown, N.J., where he worked with Physical Therapist Ashley Miller, who is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist, and Physical Therapist Alea Krouse.

After a thorough assessment revealed decreased ankle motion and strength and also difficulty with balance, the team developed a customized treatment plan to challenge Ben's deficits while managing pain. Ben progressed through ladder drills, running and jumping, and later advanced to sport-specific soccer drills to ensure pain-free kicking and a confident return to play.

Today, Ben is back on the field playing soccer. We can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next.

After years of knee pain and setbacks, Ben Houghton is getting back to the activities he loves, and doing it with confidence.

Diagnosed with tendonitis in both knees as a high school freshman, Ben continued to stay active until partially rupturing his patellar tendon (tissue connecting the kneecap to the shinbone) during his senior year of college. Seeking a more focused path to recovery, the All-Star Sports Academy coach turned to NovaCare Rehabilitation.

At his first visit, Ben said he was nervous and lacked confidence in his legs. Within minutes, Physical Therapist Nisha D’Egidio helped challenge and encourage him, creating a supportive environment that allowed him to push forward safely. Through consistent care, Ben regained strength, improved his mobility and rebuilt trust in his body.

Today, Ben is back at work, spending time with family and friends, golfing and even playing in his alumni baseball game, milestones he once worried might not be possible. He credits Nisha and the NovaCare team for their dedication, encouragement and genuine care throughout his recovery.

“I would 100% recommend NovaCare to my friends and family,” Ben said. “From day one, I felt accepted and like family.”

Grace Vild, a fencer from Wilmington, Delaware, came to NovaCare Rehabilitation after a training injury.

While fencing, she jumped back to avoid being hit and her back foot rolled underneath her. The result: a grade 3 ankle sprain with two of the three ankle ligaments completely torn, sidelining her from her sport.

“I love to fence and walk my dogs. I also work as a museum guide, so I’m on my feet all day,” Grace said. “My ankle injury took me out of the game and impacted almost everything I do.”

Grace chose NovaCare on the recommendation of her father, who is also a patient. “He told me not to bother looking anywhere else, just go to Troy at NovaCare,” she said.

Under the care of Physical Therapist Troy Staker at our Delaware - Wilmington center, Grace began a tailored rehabilitation program focused on restoring stability, mobility and strength. Her treatment included balance training, ankle mobility work, progressive strengthening, hip and core conditioning, plyometric drills and fencing-specific movement patterns to help her safely prepare for return to sport.

“Troy has been absolutely fantastic,” Grace said. “He helped me build strength and stability not just in my ankle, but in my hips and core, too. What really stood out was how enthusiastic he was about incorporating fencing-specific exercises. He truly catered my experience to me.”

Today, Grace is back to her active life, walking, hiking, running and easing her way back into fencing after being fully cleared.

“I feel great. My daily life is back to normal, and I’m excited to get back on the piste again.”
