Encouraging direction by the FDA. Prescribing docs are under more and more pressure to reduce prescription of op**te drugs for pain, but they may feel they have few options besides drugs. Some docs dismiss acupuncture without knowing anything about it but there does seem to be an increasing trend in MDs and PAs referring patients to acupuncture. Increasing Western practice based docs education and awareness about acupuncture would go a long ways to breaking down the barriers to truely integrative patient centered care!
