Helen Louise (Meyer) Lutz, age 85, of Jacksonville, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Helen Lutz was born the daughter of Howard Phillip and Thelma Lucille (Brooks) Meyer in Raymond, IL on May 18, 1939.

Helen grew up going to school in both the Franklin and Jacksonville School districts. She completed her Practical Nursing Program in Jacksonville and earned her title as LPN. Mrs. Helen attended the Raymond Baptist church. She enjoyed the hobby of reading and loved motorcycles. Helen loved spending time with her friends, and they will all miss her dearly.

Mrs. Helen married Kenneth Dale Lutz Sr. on December 7, 1990, and he preceded her in death on October 19, 2001.

Helen is survived by her children Kimberly “Kim” (William) Crain of Auburndale, Florida, Marvin “Butch” Leon Fairfield Jr. of Taylorville, IL, and Tracy (Jason) Ransom of Jacksonville, IL; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, her brother Harold W. (Deb) Meyer of Mechanicsburg, Virginia, as well as a special person that she called her own daughter - Stephanie Hall.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Lutz was preceded in death by a great grandchild.

Memorials in Mrs. Helen’s memory may be directed towards the Raymond-Harvel Ambulance Service.

A Private service will be held at a later date.

Jody Louise Weaver (‘nee Cartwright), age 62, of Hillsboro, passed away February 25, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Weaver was born on December 25, 1962, in Litchfield, to her parents Jimmy and Doris (Compton) Cartwright of Walshville, IL.
Jody’s passion in life was her dogs. She was a beloved member of the American Kennel Club (AKC) for many decades. She was honored to have her friend Sheila Giordano by her side to show their dogs together.
Jody married Michael Weaver on February 14, 2003, in Hillsboro, and he survives her.
Jody is also survived by her son Jimmy Hicks of Breese, IL, her granddaughter Ramie Dakota White of Gillespie, IL, as well as three great-grandchildren, Jordan Hope Ward, Casey Jane White, and Dakota White Jr.
Mrs. Weaver was preceded in death by her parents and son Justin Lee Hicks, who passed in 2002.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Cathy Ann (Mansholt) Matthews, age 68, passed away at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Cathy was born the daughter of Charles Henry Jr. and Shirley Ann (Kinder) Mansholt on June 5, 1956, in Litchfield, Illinois.

Mrs. Cathy Matthews graduated from Hillsboro High School class of 1974 and went straight into working for Echlin as a Master Cylinder Inspector, having spent around 30+ years with the company. She then went on to work at Hillsboro High School in the cafeteria.

Mrs. Matthews married Rick Matthews on August 2, 1980, and he survives her.

Cathy had a passion for several activities such as camping, yard-saleing, horseback riding, and traveling. Her and her friends Marsha, Terri, and Amy enjoyed going to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, not just to watch the game however, but to people watch as well. Cathy was known to enjoy her Diet Coke and Cheetos, and she savored those treats even more when she had them while she would watch her grandchildren play sports and other activities.

Mrs. Cathy Matthews is survived by her husband Rick, her daughters Casey Ann Matthews of Taylor Springs, IL and Nikki (Harley) Williams of O’Fallon, IL, stepson David (Angela) Walker of O’Fallon, IL, grandchildren Sawyer Hindle, River Williams, Ashlynn, Henry and Charlotte Walker, as well as her siblings Cindy, Becky, Larry, and Randy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Shirley.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Matthews will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 12:00 PM. A visitation will start at 11:00 AM prior to the service. Rev. Gary Stanford will be officiating.

Memorials in Cathy’s honor may be directed to the family.

Fred “Sonny” William Bergman Jr., age 93, of Irving, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 8:15 AM in Litchfield, IL at St. Francis Hospital.

Mr. Bergman was born the son of Frederick William Sr. and Marie (nee Jannsen) Bergman on March 28, 1931, in Round Tree Township, Illinois.

He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War, having earned the National Defense Service Medal for his service. Mr. Bergman went on to work for the Hillsboro Glass Factory as a Trouble Shooter, retiring in 1993 after 32 years of hard work. He was a member of the Irving American Legion Post #425 as well as the Hillsboro Moose. He was of the Lutheran faith. Fred had a passion for farming, and enjoyed other hobbies such as trapshooting. He was an avid NASCAR fan and Ford fanatic. Gardening, such as growing vegetables and flowers, was another huge passion of Sonny’s. No matter the harvest, he always had enough to go around the community and made sure everyone got their share of the yield. His notable actions of love and honor will be deeply missed within his family and the community.

Mr. Bergman married the former Roberta Elaine Schneider on July 5, 1952, in Nokomis, IL, and she preceded him in death on March 7, 2013.

Mr. Bergman is survived by his children Linda Montgomery of Decatur, IL, Luann (Husband, David) Chappelear of Hillsboro, IL, and Laura (Husband, Lane) Caulk of Irving, IL; grandchildren Jayma Trahan, Ken (Tabitha) Hefley, Joe (Jessica) Chappelear, Dan (Anne Marie) Chappelear, Nicole (Robert) Dick, Dane (Kayleigh) Bondurant, Lindsey (Jay) Huston, Dalaney (Jake) Smith, and Cody (Arianna) Caulk; great-grandchildren Kaylee, Jacob, and Gunner Hefley, Peyton, Bailey, Sawyer, Denton and Weston Chappelear, Avery and Leo Dick, Mabry Bondurant, Kanon Smith, Emalyn and Garrett Huston; brothers John Bergman of Palmer, IL, and Kenneth Bergman of Florida; a sister-in-law Wanda Sowarsh of Nokomis, IL, as well as several nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

Besides his wife Roberta and parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his daughter Loretta McCartney; a grandchild Kaci McCartney; brothers; Dale, Carl, and Harold Bergman; and his sisters Lorene Devisher, Doris Weller, Arlene Bell, and Meta Jane Bergman who passed in infancy; son-in-laws Dennis Montgomery and Martin McCartney; sister-in-law Carol Bergman; brother-in-law Frank Bell; as well as his beloved pup Muffy.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Fred Bergman will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL with Pastor Mark Noyes officiating. A visitation will be held the night prior on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 4:30 – 7:30 PM at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow the funeral service in Asbury Cemetery in Raymond, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Frederick Bergman’s honor may be directed towards the Montgomery County Animal Control or the Irving Century House.
