Back to school shopping for my high schooler took 5 minutes and cost a total of $1.17 today: 3 notebooks in all, from our local Freddy's. Elementary school parents: it DOES get easier in some ways! 🤪🙏

Thankful for the small things! And, of course, for a kiddo who's perfectly happy to reuse the supplies he's got that are still in good shape 💕

Wooo! I got my ticket today to attend the 5th anniversary gala for@communitydoulaalliance and I can't wait to celebrate this amazing organization and the work they're doing to support doulas and families. 💞 Thanks for joining me!

Throwback to my last choir concert of the season. What a fun time, and a lovely group!

Some things I learned in my first community choir experience:
👀 Tips on making a group accessible to all! We have such a range of abilities, and the leadership made it look effortless to accomodate everyone's needs with grace and warmth.

🎶 How to be an alto (it's so hard! we never get the melody!) and grow some new musical skills

🥳 Celebrating that I showed up when I could, and learning that doing my best is good enough. And practicing embracing imperfection.

This was an incredible learning experience, and I can't wait to start up again in the fall.

Two more stops on our grand tour of the desert this summer: Four Corners monument and Mesa Verde!

Too bad I didn't get more epic pics of our guided hikes at Mesa Verde. It was amazing, but I was too busy facing my fears to snap a shot. We climbed up a 30-foot ladder on the side of the cliff and squiggled through a narrow tunnel, but the immersive experience was worth it!

We all loved how their visitor center was transparent about being in transition: from the old narrative ("this is an ancient wonder from a people who built it and then disappeared") to a newer, more collaborative message: this is an ancient wonder built by indigenous people who are STILL AROUND, and just a small part of THEIR INCREDIBLE STORY. One of our tour guides was a young member of the Hopi tribe serving as an AmeriCorps member, and shared his perspective on this ancestral site. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Made it to the Grand Canyon in June for my first time ever! Bucket list item achieved! ✅ Thankful to this guy for taking the lead on planning this family trip, driving the 1000+ miles to share some of his top childhood spots with us, and reminding me to use my cooling towel in the 100-degree days 🥰

I walked around Cathedral Park under my favorite PDX bridge today, and discovered the cutest tiny beachfront on the Willamette! 🌟 That was new to me 🌟

I've got one kiddo who is taking every opportunity to learn new things this summer -- hello, tap dance and finance and pottery wheels!

And one who's sticking a little closer to his comfort zone -- sports, sports, and sports -- but also finding ways to stretch himself, like playing with flavors in the kitchen. 🤤

It's true, Sedona is a beautiful place to visit! Here's me in the heat 🔥 earlier this month, hiking Faye Canyon with my boys. I'd def go back, but maybe not in the summertime. 😅
