Kenyan runner Abel Mutai was only a few meters from the finish line, but got confused with the signs and stopped, thinking he had finished the race. A Spanish man, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing what was going on, started shouting to the Kenyan to keep running. Mutai did not know Spanish and did not understand.

Realizing what was going on, Fernandez pushed Mutai to victory. A reporter asked Ivan, "Why did you do this?" Ivan replied, "My dream is that one day we can have some sort of community life where we push ourselves and help each other win." The reporter insisted "But why did you let the Kenyan win?" Ivan replied, "I didn't let him win, he was going to win. The race was his."

The reporter insisted and asked again, "But you could have won!" Ivan looked at him and replied: "But what would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honor of this medal? What would my Mother think of it?" The values are transmitted from generation to generation. What values do we teach our children and how much do you inspire others to earn? Most of us take advantage of people's weaknesses instead of helping to strengthen them. Alhamdulillah 🤲🙏

How does the body in front of you respond? That’s where we begin..

There are a few fundamental pillars of technique to follow that will ensure optimal performance and long term safety when squatting.
1️⃣ Stable feet (tripod foot)
2️⃣ Stable knees (minimize horizontal movement on the ascent aka knee cave)
3️⃣ Stable trunk (proximal stability enhances distal athleticism & power - )
There will be variations in other factors like depth & toe angle based on an individuals anatomy/mobility, injury history, and goals.
Good coaches don’t make statements that everyone should squat the same way because some simply can’t and shouldn’t attempt to. Good coaches understand how to analyze those factors to find the best squat for the individual while also giving them tools to work on to enhance their lifts and find what’s most optimal in the long run.

ON THE GO WORKOUTS

#1: 30 min TABATA-
20 sec Doing Exercise, 10 sec Rest. Repeat 8 times then move to next exercise.

1. Disco Dumbbells (alternate)
2. V-Crunch Abs
3. Band Donkey Kicks
4. Bicycle Crunches
5. Jumping Jacks
6. Step Ups on Low Bench or Stairs

#2: 30 min TABATA-
20 sec Doing Exercise, 10 sec Rest. Repeat 8 times then move to next exercise.

1. Run in Place
2. Lying Leg Lifts
3. Mountain Climbers
4. Reverse Lunges (alternate legs)
5. Knee Drops Side to Side
6. Seal Jacks

#3: Perform each exercise one time, go to the next one and complete all 6 for 3 rounds
1. Forward Leg Lift and Kick 15/side
2. Resistaband Flyes 15
3. Bodyweight Squats 15-20
4. Resistaband Rows 15
5. Bicep curls to shoulder press
6. Plank 1 minute

#4: Perform each exercise one time, go to the next one and complete all 6 for 3 rounds
1. Wall Lunges 10/ side
2. Resistaband Cowboy Walk 15-20/ side
3. Cross Body Crunch 15/ side
4. One Legged Glute Bridges
5. Plank Pushups 5-10/ side
6. Weighted Overhead Carry 1 minute (something like a kettlebell or bag)

#5: Perform each exercise one time, go to the next one and complete all 6 for 3 rounds
1. Side Walking Squats 15/ side
2. Sledge Hammer Swings 15/ side
3. Lunged Dumbbell Kickbacks 10/side
4. Busdrivers (can be a backpack or big purse) 15
5. Mountain Climbers 30/leg
6. Glute Bridges with Weight at Hips 20

CHERYL PAPPAS

This month's Client of the Month goes to Cheryl Pappas- great job girl!!! Cheryl is the focus this month because of her perseverance and commitment to her goals. She works hard both in the gym and outside of it! While she fasho has the gift of the professional shopper (if it's a good deal, she's all over it!), she also has a full time job as a floral manager, property buyer, and anything else that she chooses to take on. This gal is unstoppable! She continues to encourage and light a fire under her gym cohorts here at AF while she keeps herself going too...Cheryl knows how to get it done! And you're not gonna want to miss the pool party/ potluck she has so generously agreed to host this summer at her lovely home. (Final date to be determined- will keep ya'll posted!)

Come workout with Cheryl in the 4 or 5pm classes and see for yourself just how motivated she is!
