The residents from Cornell Estates took a scenic trip to Spirit Mountain Casino this week. They ate good food, tried their luck, walked, people watched, and enjoyed each other's company. Not sure that there were any big winners, but it sounds like they all had fun!

Every day residents go on walks around the beautiful gardens and grounds at Cornell Estates. On Sunday mornings, we have a coordinated group walk where we go see what is blooming and growing in the different courtyards. We have many resident gardeners who enjoy working in the rose gardens or planting in the waist high large planters. In the one court yard, next to the green house, there is also a berry patch with multiple kinds of berries. There you will find a berry called the “Arden Berry” named after one of our master gardener residents. The flowers are truly spectacular, and there is so much to see and experience!

This week the resident actors at Cornell Estates put on a play for a packed house. Resident Cyndi Turtledove, who teaches the “Spanish Through the Arts Class” at our community, wrote, directed and narrated her play called “Goldilocks and the 3 Osos”. The resident students in her class performed and sang in the play (mostly in English, but also in Spanish). The audience also got to sing along. Thank you to Cyndi Turtledove, Jerry Vogel, Fred Vinell, Rivka Hehn, Virginia Eggert, Natalia Stahl and Ken Silver for a very entertaining show!

Seated from left to right is Ambassador John Van De Graaf, Queen Laurie Van De Graaf, Queen Teresa Heysler, and Ambassador Jerry Vogel. Their happy waving images were also on Cornell’s bus that drove in the Hillsboro Rotary 4th of July Parade. Thank you to our wonderful Rose Queens and Ambassadors!

Nani, a resident at Cornell Estates, and her grandson Matt decided to start a 2000 piece puzzle. This was a huge challenge! Those pieces are small, and they seem to fit in multiple places. Other residents and a few guests joined in on the puzzle fun! Then… Voilà! “The Secret Garden" 2000 piece puzzle was completed with amazingly no missing pieces! Thanks to everyone who contributed!
