Welcome to April! We have continued on with our traveling and have landed in France for the month of April. The month started with a challenging project and two individuals, Pat and Shirley, were ready to take it on. Many of us know Vincent Van Gogh as a famous artist. He was not from France, but he did spend much of his life there, where many of his famous paintings were created, including “Starry Night”. After Pat and Shirley took in a little art history about the life of Van Gogh and the types of paintings he did, they were ready to start creating their own version of “Starry Night”. Check out the hard work they put in, spread over two days!

At Milestone Senior Living of Hillsboro, everyone in our care is like family. We know their stories, their hopes, and their dreams. This is what draws us together. Every month, we strive to make a dream come true for at least one resident in our community. Our Dare to Dream recipient for the month of March is Diana Seifkes!

Diana is a retired teacher from the school district of Richland Center who taught in kindergarten, 4th, and 5th grades. She truly found her home with the fifth graders and taught in that grade until retirement. She often mentions just how much she misses her 5th graders and tells stories about memorable field trips that were taken.
We were happy to plan a day for her to work with 5th graders at the nearby elementary school in Hillsboro. She helped students during math and reading classes, attended guidance class, and was very interested in how they use technology for research and putting together a report during their library time. She concluded her time at the school with helping on recess duty before we headed to the coffee shop in town to warm up and enjoy some lunch.
Diana may be retired, but the love and passion she has for teaching kids and creating meaningful experiences for them still holds true to this day!📚👩‍🏫🏫

Hillsboro High School choir students made the trip to Milestone this week to share some of the things they have been busy working on. They had performed one of the group songs during their spring concert, and the rest of the performances were small groups or solos that will be judged at the solo ensemble competition this weekend. As far as Milestone is concerned, each performance earned a 1st place in our book. We want to wish these students luck this weekend and thank them for bringing their talents to Milestone for us to enjoy!

We introduced another new game this week…….air hockey! Once residents were comfortable with moving one ball back and forth, we added a second ball!! They did amazing, and had a lot of fun doing it. After playing air hockey, we transformed the table into the Hungry Hippos game again and played a few rounds of that as well.

Last week residents embarked on a fun scavenger hunt for 10 large green shamrocks that were hidden throughout the community. All forms were collected and we drew one winner. Residents worked hard at filling Easter eggs full of candy. These will be donated to our little friends at Sunshine and Giggles daycare center to be used in their egg hunt next month. Eggs weren’t the only thing that was filled today……..the hearts of our residents were also a little fuller after this activity.🐣🐣
