💛✨This week around the studio we have been talking about how February is kind of special this year. It has 4 Mondays, 4 Tuesdays, 4 Wednesdays, 4 of everything.

It’s so perfectly BALANCED Lol ⚖️

🌱What an opportunity, we get to slow down and actually feel the seasonal shift.

Winter is still here but Spring is starting to stretch and wake up.

If you’re still moving slower and sleeping a little longer, resting a lot and staying warm you’re doing it right! 💪🏻

We don’t need to rush this transition, we plan, we get clear and then we step out - right/yang foot forward, clear, steady and unhurried with a sustained pace for 6 months of yang season.

This is intelligent wisdom, this is embodiment, this is the CENTRE Method that we teach at CENTRE - in the yoga studio and in the clinic.

The body understands the seasonal shift better than the mind. Trust its wisdom. It always knows when it’s time to open.

Don’t rush…listen…don’t act until you’re SURE…

This week on the mat we LISTEN and I will be encouraging you to explore -

💛What did winter ask me to slow down enough to feel? ❤️
💛What truths surfaced in the darkness and stillness of winter for me? 💪🏻
💛What exhaustion, grief and heaviness am I ready to let move into growth and wisdom? 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️
💛What didn’t grow, am I willing to stop trying to forcing it? 🤔
💛Where did rest become medicine rather than avoidance? 🙌

These are the opportunity for growth as we slowly thaw out and move into the energy of spring.

I’m ready…I’m excited to lead us into this next phase with the balance and steadiness!

✨💛For the record… my husband Eric was not a yoga guy.

Over 40, bulging discs, back injury, tight body and a skeptical mind. He came in reluctantly, mostly because I was teaching online and I gently nudged him (okay… more than gently 🙈🤣)

What surprised both of us is what happened next…

✅He started noticing how much better his body felt
✅His stress levels dropped
✅His digestion and sleep improved
✅His back DID NOT HURT

Now missing practice actually makes a difference to his day. Now he’s one of yoga’s biggest advocates and when work consults keep him from class, he asks for privates because he knows his body needs it.

This is why I’ll always say, yoga isn’t about flexibility, age, gender, or being “a yoga person.”

Yoga is about feeling better in your body. Moving pain free! Sleeping better. Having a way to regulate stress when life is full.

If an over-40, busy, initially reluctant husband can fall in love with yoga… truly, yoga is for everyone.

And you don’t have to look a certain way or know what you’re doing to start. Ask Eric, you just have to show up. 🧘‍♂️

Fight / flight? Reach for Yin or Gentle Flow.
Freeze or numb? Reach for Slow Flow or Vinyasa.

Yoga is medicine when you know what to take and when.

💛🙌Winter to Spring wisdom…

If this post helps you please share it with someone who could also benefit, the world needs more kind, deep breathers than ever before….💛💛💛

In the final weeks of Winter ask us to slow down, listen, tune in and explore a different more regulated transition to the yang season. Instead of the harshness of flicking a light switch, dark to light, cold to hot, in to out it’s more like a dimmer switch in a cozy library. A slower, conscious defrosting of the nervous system to have a more sustainable, regulated steadiness that can hold you and your growth in the next 6 months.

We get excited about the sunshine and we bolt out of the stable like a stallion and then we struggle in the high Summer when we begin to burn out. To sustain August and September we mindfully listen and respond to our nervous system. Learning when it up regulates when we get overstimulated to a fight/flight response or when it regulates down to a freeze response and numbness.

Yoga is medicine to both states, but knowing what to reach for and when becomes the life changing medicine that you take with you through all the seasons and on to every season of your life.

When you hit fight/flight you reach for YIN, Slow Flow and Gentle Flow classes. When you freeze you reach for Slow Flow and Vinyasa.

This yang season my hope for our Kula (community) is to pace with a conscious steadiness so we can grow into learning all of the lessons each season brings to our lives, on and off the mat. Growth is constant, suffering is a choice.

Thank you for being here, our classes this month are steady, grounding and intentionally written to help you feel better when you leave than when you arrived.

Just thoughtful movement and a room of REAL people.

💛✨How yoga supports pain relief - clinically and GENTLY.

Pain is not just a tissue issue, it is also a nervous system response.

In many people over 40, ongoing pain is linked to a nervous system that has been in a heightened state for years. Many live in pain due to stress, injury, inflammation, hormonal changes, or long term compensation patterns in the body.

When the nervous system stays “on,” the body responds by -
💛increases muscle tension
💛reducing blood flow to tissues
💛amplifying pain signals
💛limiting joint mobility and breath capacity
