If you're struggling right now, you're not alone.

Utility companies in NC have hardship programs - call before disconnection notices arrive. Most will pause shutoffs and work with you on reduced payments.

Food banks want you to take what you need. Freeze bread immediately, batch-cook soups and freeze portions. Make what you get last longer.

Medical bills, rent, other debts - most creditors would rather get $10/month than nothing. Just ask. The worst they can say is no, but many will say yes.

You don't have to figure this out alone.

Who we are

CHOEDC’s mission is to provide support and innovative approaches that focus on health, economic stability, disaster recovery, financial independence, jobs, small business technical training, business development, and affordable housing. Recently we joined the North Carolina Community Action Association in order to partner and address the anti-poverty strategies that are needed in economically distressed rural areas. CHOEDC measures the success of its services and activities by its social return on investments and environmental benefits in its target market. To date, CHOEDC has counseled and provided small business technical assistance to hundreds of entrepreneurs located in rural counties throughout North Carolina. New jobs have been created and small businesses have been impacted providing economic sustainability in their communities.
