Please share with anyone you know who is a caregiver of a loved one with dementia who needs a restorative moment for him- or herself.

A new art lesson is presented each month in a 2-hour session. The lesson provides a bit of relaxation and the opportunity to have a stress-free creative learning experience. All supplies are provided.

These creative respite sessions, specifically intended for caregivers who are caring for a loved one(s) with Dementia, are free of charge but registration is required.

The lesson for September is Cut Paper Hearts. A few little hearts, a medium size heart or a big heart will be the focus of our session in September. With careful planning we will fill the inside of paper heart shapes with your own cut paper design. The theme in the example are leaves, but you may choose anything you desire. These are meant to be special hearts to treasure for yourself or to share.

The Dept. on Aging is giving away free fans on Thursday, July 17 from 9 to 11 am at the Seymour Center at 2551 Homestead Rd., Chapel Hill. Must be an Orange County resident 60+ or have a disability.

Soltys Place will follow its neighbors and close today out of an abundance of caution. Please be safe.

Due to the severe impacts of Tropical Storm Chantal across the region, all Orange County government offices and facilities will be closed today, Monday, July 7, 2025.

Tropical Storm Chantal has brought significant rainfall, and localized flooding throughout Orange County, creating hazardous travel conditions and widespread power outages. Emergency management officials continue to assess storm damage and coordinate response efforts.

Essential services such as public safety, emergency response, and critical infrastructure operations will remain active during the closure. Residents are urged to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and to monitor official channels for updates.

The following are key service impacts for today:

Solid Waste Services: Curbside collections are suspended. A revised schedule will be shared once conditions improve.
Public Libraries: All library branches are closed.
Orange County Public Transportation: Orange County Public Transportation (OCPT) will suspend all transit services to ensure the safety of passengers, operators, and staff.
Orange County Emergency Services is monitoring conditions closely and will provide updates as necessary.

9-1-1 Services: Will be available. Please only call 9-1-1 to report emergencies. Sign up for OC Alerts at ocalertsnc.com.
