I have over 26 years of social work experience in the fields of child welfare, education, and community mental health. I specialize in providing in-depth, culturally-sensitive diagnostic assessments for adults in the areas of Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I obtained advanced training from the Immigration Evaluation Training Center with Georgia King. To date, I have conducted more than 100 comprehensive diagnostic assessments and formal reports to District Courts, combined, and provided testimony in criminal and civil proceedings. Over the years, I have also provided workshops, spoke at conferences, and have been part of several community-action committees, professional and non-profit boards, and provided advocacy for vulnerable populations. I am a proud member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the North Carolina Chapter of the NASW, and the National Organization of Forensic Social Workers (NOFSW). My Approach:

As a clinical social worker, I take a holistic approach, aiming to uncover the root causes of emotional and mental pain. I employ trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based methods. My toolkit includes evidence-based approaches. I also view experiences through a trauma-focused lens, understanding how past events shape self-perception. Using a solution-focused, strengths-based theoretical approach, I work with you to problem-solve barriers which prevent you from living your best life. I love working with adolescents, teens, young adults, and adults to help improve relationships, identify and reach personal goals, and offer a neutral safe space to process life's challenges. My comprehensive treatment modalities are influenced by:
-Psychodynamic Therapy

My Journey

My own journey into social work began as a middle school student in a counseling group for “at-risk” students. This experience, guided by an exceptional clinical social worker, shaped my life. He taught me to consider all facets of life when making decisions and inspired me to give back to my community. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree at East Carolina University, becoming the first in my family to attend college. While completing my degree, I married a Marine, which led to a diverse career providing social work services across various communities. In 2022, I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from North Carolina Central University, solidifying my path as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Special Focus in Therapy:

Emerging Adults: I have a special interest in middle school through college-aged students, especially given the impact of COVID-19 on their lives. Having witnessed firsthand the challenges they faced during school closures, as a Licensed School Social Worker, I aim to provide comprehensive support to help them regain control and empowerment in their lives. Let’s work together to cultivate “a life worth living.” I look forward to connecting with you and providing the support you need on your journey. Military-Connected Individuals, Dependants, and Veterans: I have a unique affinity for working with military service-connected individuals and their families. Being a Marine Veteran’s wife, I comprehend the challenges and rewards tied to military life. I’m a registered provider with Star Behavioral Health Providers, specializing in the field of military psychotherapy. LGBTQ+ Individuals, Allies, and Family Members: I am committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for the LGBTQ+ community. I am a proud Allie who has had to navigate religious trauma because of my own connection to the Southern Baptist faith. I understand the complexities of navigating religious trauma and can help individuals find their path, as well as support family members who may be working through their own understanding of how they can support their loved ones going through this process. Most couples wait until they're already heated to figure out what to say.

By then, it's too late. These phrases work because they create safety before conflict escalates.

They signal to your partner that you're listening, that their feelings matter, and that you're solving this together.

You don't need to memorize them. Just notice how different they feel from how most people communicate during tension.

Like this if you're trying to fight less and follow for more on building a secure relationship.

So very true! I was not diagnosed with ADHD until I was 43 years old and had a hysterectomy! I felt like I was loosing myself from the hormonal effects of this. It created a perfect storm where I could no longer rely on my decades of innate coping skills that had been quietly cultivated by myself to keep myself fully functioning and on task. I had no idea the level of fortitude and internal strength I had until it felt like I lost it all after one major surgical operation. With support from my therapist and my primary care physician I was appropriately treated with stimulant medication and regular therapy sessions. I now am back to being my “normal” self.

Any female who has been holding it all together and then suddenly feels overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally fatigued, physically fatigued, unfocused, disorganized, forgetful, etc., please consider the possibility that you may be a high-functioning ADHDer who can no longer do “it” on your own. Getting appropriately assessed and treated can make the world of difference.

Very good read about experiential vs non attachment.

Nonattachment has been central to wisdom traditions for centuries. In a new article, we describe it as a learnable skill: noticing the pull of praise, status, or self-image without being run by it, and choosing actions that fit what truly matters.

If you are curious how this shows up in everyday life and what the science says, check out the article: https://authors.elsevier.com/c/1mMid7s~yKXeDC
