To my colleagues at Fox 9, I’m just Courtney. They don’t treat me differently because of what I’ve been through or how I look. Yet, as the camera pulled out to this full body shot the other night, I couldn’t help but feel a great sense of responsibility.
In a job where we are constantly judged by our appearance, I’m challenging the norm and hoping to change your standards.
TV news people are constantly scrutinized for how they look. It is quite literally a job requirement to be aesthetically pleasing.
And yet here I am with a jarring physical difference on your TV screen. I am challenging your idea of “perfect” and daring society and TV executives to change their standards.
I’m no less smart, no less beautiful, no less of a talented journalist because of my physical differences.
Let’s deviate from the norm and make THIS normal.
