Today was our rescheduled Kīpuka Weeding Day after last Friday’s heavy rain.

A lomilomi student visiting from Japan joined us and helped care for the medicenal plants together. We started at 8:30 in the morning, and just as we were about to head home around noon, my car battery died. My husband had to come all the way from Hilo to rescue us, so we ended up spending the entire day at Kīpuka continuing the garden work.

Even so, when I looked back at the medicinal garden from the gate before leaving, it somehow looked as if nothing had been pulled at all!

Kumu Dane’s haumāna it’s your turn! We’re waiting for you 🌿

Aloha Friday! Kīpuka weeding day 🌿

Aunty Luana taught my son how to repot a moringa today. Grateful for these small moments of learning from the ʻāina and from our kūpuna. 🌱

I’m grateful to be involved in Kumu Dane’s project at Kīpuka Farmacy .

I was given the garden key 🔑, and Fridays will be our garden care day with my boy.
We’ll be spending time caring for the medicinal plants little by little, with respect and aloha.

If anyone feels like joining us for some easy weeding, fresh air, and time in the garden, you’re very welcome.

Kumu Dane の遺したKīpuka Farmacy のプロジェクトに関わらせていただけることになり、ガーデンの鍵🔑をお預かりし、これからは毎週金曜日をお手入れの日にする事に決めました。
敬意とアロハの気持ちを込めて息子と少しずつ薬草のお世話をしていく予定です。

もし、気分転換に雑草抜きや、外の空気を感じながらガーデンで過ごしたい方がいたら、ぜひご一緒してください。

PIʻIHONUA

Moanikeʻala is a lush garden owned by Laron Kageyama and his wife, Yumiko. They have been pouring their heart and soul into revitalizing this once famous garden that had been left untouched for years. Everyday they work to bring this garden back to life. One day at a time, they continue to push back the encroaching forest around their home.

This is where the kāhili kī caught my eye and inspired this new layout. As other plants began to surround the garden, the kāhili kī stood tall and strong, continuing to rise forth. The name given to this design, Piʻihonua, honors the ahupuaʻa where the garden grows and especially to Laron and Yumiko, for everything they have gone through
to keep this extraordinary garden alive.

We’re so grateful to welcome the Lomilomi students from Australia and Japan, led by Instructor Wakako from Adelaide.
They are staying here at and taking classes, filling this place with such beautiful energy.

Our kids are overjoyed to be surrounded by these kind and loving aunties.
The new accommodation on our property received a true blessing through their stay and I’m so happy to hear they’re all sleeping so well.

Mahalo nui for bringing this special light to this place.

Another water birth experience at our hale.
Welcome our daughter Waiʻale!

第三子(次女)ヴァイアレが無事に産まれました。

深夜0時。軽い生理痛のような子宮収縮が始まり、一応ミッドワイフに連絡。

夜中の1時にミッドワイフが到着して子宮口をチェックすると2cm。この時の触診から徐々に本陣痛が始まり早くて朝方にお産かと思いきや、あれよあれよという間に2時間後に3度のプッシュで産まれて来てくれました。

お陰様で母子共に健康です。
忘れぬうちに、どなたかのお役に立てるように詳細をブログに書き記そうと思います。

1月下旬までお休みを頂きますが皆様にお会い出来るのを楽しみにしております。

2024 Merrie Monarch Festival memory

We were very honored to be on the Hōʻike night stage this year as ʻohana ʻAha Pūnanaleo with my son.
Mahalo nui loa to all kūpuna, kumu, makua, keiki and all of the people who contributed to the Hawaiian language revival.

Kumu Kaliko returned to Moani ke ʻala from when his hānai mother, Aunty Nona Beamer, blessed our hale for the previous owners.
Kumu Kaliko and his ʻohana gave his haumāna the opportunity to practice ʻŌlelo Hawaii this weekend which included a tour of the garden, singing Desha Beamer’s mele, sharing of ono food, and learning about the history of the Beamer and Henderson friendship. I am sure, Leimakani and and Helen Desha Beamer were smiling and looking over our gathering at this place. Mahalo ke akua, what a blessed day.

Hauʻoli makahiki hou 2024
We spent new years in Japan with ʻohana and lomi ʻohana.

10年ぶりに日本で年越しを迎え、家族は勿論のこと、北海道のロミオハナ、本土のインストラクター陣とロミオハナと共に時間を過ごす事が出来ました。

新年の挨拶をする事が憚れるような年の始まりでしたが、
今年も変わらずロミロミを通じて地域貢献、ハワイへの貢献に邁進して参ります。
