Wonky weather hasn't stopped us! The hikes have continued, as have the residents enjoying them. Rain was predicted on Wednesday, but it held off, and everyone got outside for some forest therapy with Greg. After some time in the woods, we moved inside for yoga and meditation.

Today was extra special because one of our ranch graduates officially signed up to start her yoga teacher training! Soon, you’ll be seeing her co-leading sessions with Jill and bringing these practices directly back to this community.

We are also looking forward to training up another resident in the near future... any guesses who might be next? 👣🧘‍♀️

We spent an incredible Wednesday at Travis Mills Foundation for our Witness in the Wilderness curriculum. We got to lead this group through nature education, outdoor experiences, and some time on the mat with yoga and meditation. It was a true honor to hold space for these folks and connect with such a resilient group. Thank you for having us!

We often equate yoga with fancy studios and poses, but true yoga is turning inward, withdrawing from the senses, and finding stillness within.
Ranch residents know this, and work to create a state of peace and inner stillness on the mat, in a chair, and in life.
Lead with the heart, in yoga, in life, and in recovery. ❤️

Another beautiful day outdoors!

Hey everyone! 👋

Sorry for the radio silence lately—we’ve been head-down and heart-first in the recovery community.

We’ve got a massive new partnership in the works with a local foundation that we can't quite name yet, but stay tuned for the big reveal! 🤫

We've been continuing our work with clients and programs, but aside from that, we've been working on some professional development.

Here’s what the team’s been up to:

Jill is diving deep into research on meditation and SUD.

Greg is buried in books, studying for his big exam.

Big things are coming soon. Thanks for sticking with us! 🌲✨

January Adventures: Rugged Maine Recovery in the Wild 🌲❄️🧘‍♀️

What a start to 2026! This January, Pure Outdoors has been busy wrapping up a series of incredible winter adventures. From the quiet stillness of snow-covered hiking trails to the adrenaline of skiing—we’ve been out there doing the work.

Recovery is an Adventure. 🧗‍♂️ At Pure Outdoors, we believe that sobriety is built on resilience, skill, and stillness. Our mission is to take folks out of the clinical setting and into the wilderness to practice real-world skills. Whether it’s navigating a winter trail or finding peace through movement, these are the tools for a life well-lived.

Meet the Powerhouse Team:

🔥 Greg: The Ultimate Maine Guide & Architect of Adventures!
If you want to know what it means to master the Maine woods, you look to Greg. A Veteran, Whitewater Guide, and Registered Maine Guide, Greg is the backbone of our outdoor operations. He coordinates every expedition, manages the logistics, and gathers all the essential equipment—from fly-tying kits to hiking gear—ensuring our participants have everything they need to succeed in the wild. If it happens in the Maine outdoors, Greg is the one making it possible.

🎓 Jill: The Science of Mindfulness
Dr. Jill Satnam brings the clinical and contemplative power to the team. As a Professor of Psychology, Psy.D., and Ph.D. in Yoga, Jill is a dedicated SUD researcher. She integrates yoga and meditation into every outing, ensuring that the physical adventure is balanced with the internal work of mindfulness and stillness. Her specialized curriculum helps residents translate a day on the mountain into long-term craving management.

We Bring the Adventure to You! 🚐 Pure Outdoors partners directly with treatment programs to get residents out into the community. We arrive with an evidence-based SUD curriculum and the best in guiding outdoor programming. We’re here to show that a sober life is the most adventurous life you can lead.

Let’s get outside.

Today was a celebration of resilience at El Rancho de la Vida, where residents enjoyed skating, soundbathing, and yoga. We're honored to be part of their recovery journey every Wednesday.

Embracing ahimsa, or non-violence, empowers us to break free from the cycle of shame and relapse by cultivating self-compassion and accountability.

Thank you to all who practiced today.
