Here in Vermont we have had the first chilly evening we have had in a while! The horses are growing their thick winter coats, and we are bundling up and subconsciously leaning into more of a state of hibernation. Just being warm and cozy in a safe home is such a blessing. Horses and humans alike are gearing up for the long season we do our best to lean into. What if we looked at more time in stillness as a gift? All the animals on the farm are beginning to shift into it, and our light is always on, our fireplace always warm. 🦄✨

Prince is blown away that we are already a full week into the 2024-2025 academic school year. Where has summer gone? Lots of sessions this past week at Reins of Heart Wellness Center, PLLC, have focused on changes and adjustments. Everything is fluid. Nothing stays still for too long. We must always be bending in resilience and bravery for all the new seasons we are lucky enough to experience. Many of my clients are attending high school and college for the first time this year. This takes some huge courage. I have been thinking of a mantra for this current school year to share with all of my beloved clients who struggle with adjustment. I think I am landing with; Bend and breathe into it. Lean into what is new. Your true resilience lies in how you continue to put one foot in front of the other, even when it’s hard. Sitting with you all last week experiencing your fears, tears, joy, and courage continues to remind me I am doing what I have been called to do, and that standing beside you all in all of your spaces is truly my gift. 🦄✨

Oh, Mayflower! You look spectacular! I am constantly preaching about co-regulation and how important it is in this work. A horse can hear a human heartbeat from 4 feet away. Amazing, right? Your equine partner can sense what you need, maybe even before you can. Today, Mayflower got a special new temporary dye job, from her favorite person in the world. All the while, Mayflower’s human partner was benefiting from co-regulation through physical touch. Through the intervention, I watched my client relax, shoulders drop, while Mayflower did the same. The beauty of physical touch, hands on contact and movement, can help us re-stabilize into our equilibrium. I know when I am feeling anxious, if I can touch my favorite person or animal, I can maintain a feeling of control and safety. Can you think of a time you experienced co-regulation through physical touch? What happened? 🦄✨
