Lots of parents hear the same thing during a parent-teacher conference: “Your child is having trouble focusing in class.”

Sometimes it’s just a phase. Sometimes it’s sleep, stress, or too many distractions. And sometimes it’s a sign that a child may need a little extra support.

If your child seems easily distracted, forgets instructions, or struggles to finish schoolwork, it may help to talk through what’s going on with a pediatric provider.

We just posted a new article on common reasons kids have trouble focusing in school and when it may be time to get guidance. Link in the comments. 👇

Hall Pediatrics offers pediatric telehealth visits for families across Georgia, so parents can discuss concerns about focus, behavior, or school performance without leaving home. Sometimes a short conversation can make a big difference, and we’re here for you. All contact info at the link in comments.

📣 Georgia Parents - Daylight Saving Time is just around the corner, so now’s the perfect time to start easing your child into the new schedule instead of flipping the switch overnight. 😴 🌞

That little one-hour time shift can feel like jet lag for kids (and honestly… for parents too). Here are a few simple ways to make the transition smoother in the week leading up to the time change:

• Shift bedtime and wake time by about 10–15 minutes earlier each day
• Move meals, baths, and wind-down routines earlier to match
• Get outside in the morning for natural light, as it helps reset their internal clock
• Keep evenings calm and dim (less screens, more chill)
• Stick to your routine once the new time hits, because consistency is your best friend

If your child already struggles with sleep, this is a great time to tighten up that bedtime routine so it works for you instead of against you. Good luck, y’all… you got this! Or do you? 😂

By late winter in Georgia, a lot of parents might start noticing that their child has a runny nose, some congestion, maybe a little cough, and it just seems to linger. The hard part is figuring out whether it is a simple cold or the start of early spring allergies.

In Georgia, tree pollen can begin rising as early as February, which means allergy symptoms often start before parents expect them. Colds and allergies can look very similar at first. Both can cause a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, and general discomfort. But there are a few key differences that can help you figure out what you are dealing with, especially during this late winter transition period. Read our blog post for some key indicators. 👇

Allergies or a cold? Georgia parents learn the difference, what symptoms mean, and when to call or use pediatric telehealth.

We encourage parents to review their child’s immunization records, ask questions, and reach out to trusted medical professionals for guidance. Whether through an in person visit or a telehealth appointment, our goal is to support families across Georgia and keep children healthy as measles activity increases in our region.

As pediatricians caring for children across Georgia, we are watching the current rise in measles cases with serious concern. Doctors’ visits for flu-like symptoms — fevers, sore throat, extreme fatigue and body aches — have hit the highest level in nearly 30 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and are likely to continue to rise in the coming weeks.

At least 5,000 people have died this season, including nine children.

For the week ending Dec. 27, the CDC reported that nearly 1 in 10 outpatient visits nationwide — 8.2% — were for flu-like illnesses. That’s the highest logged since the CDC started tracking such visits in 1997.

Only Montana, South Dakota, Vermont and West Virginia are experiencing low to moderate flu spread. Data for Nevada was “insufficient,” the agency said.
