Update for Monday January 26, 2026. The office at South Shore Orthopedics will be closed today. Travel is unsafe for our patients, staff and providers. The office does plan on opening on time on Tuesday January 27.

We are committed to delivering the highest standard of orthopedic care. South Shore Orthopedics is transitioning to a new electronic health record and patient portal system, athenahealth, on Tuesday, January 20.

What this means for you:

•Enhanced Portal: A new, user-friendly portal to view lab results, visit notes, and care plans. You can also fill out forms, request refills, and manage appointments.

•Better Communication: Secure, two-way messaging with your care team.

•Coordinated Care: Improved communication between our orthopedic team and your primary care provider.

•Mobile App: Access your health information on the go with the athenaPatient™ app.

•Simplified Payments: An easier, faster, and more intuitive online billing system.

Action Required: You will receive an invitation via email or text to set up your new athenahealth portal account. Please complete this registration to ensure uninterrupted access to your records.

Providing an update to the post from 12/1/2025 regarding the phone system. We are being told that our vendor had a large outage. While things were somewhat better today, they are still not resolved. We are continuing to work with our vendor on resolving the issue(s) and doing our best to address our patients and referral sources trying to contact us. Again, we appreciate your patience and still suggest that you continue alternative ways to contact us including use of the patient portal and our website.

Good afternoon. We are aware that there is an issue with our phone system that is not allowing us to consistently handle calls. We our working with our vendors to resolve the issue. In the meantime, the best course of action to reach our office is through the patient portal or our website where you can contact our office.

In late October, South Shore Orthopedics updated our phone system as part of our ongoing effort to improve communication and the care we provide. More improvements are coming in January 2026, when we transition to Athena, our new medical record system.

With the recent phone update, we introduced an automated call-back option. This allows callers to request a call back instead of waiting on hold—while still keeping their place in line. Calls are returned in the order they are received.

We know there are times during the week when call volume is especially high and wait times can be longer than any of us would like. Now that we have better data on call trends, we’re actively working on plans to improve coverage and response times. Please know that this is a top priority for us, and we’re continuously making internal changes to serve you better.

Even with the new call-back feature, all of the options from our previous system are still available. Callers may still:
• Navigate to the correct department through our phone tree
• Leave a message for our call center by pressing 1
• Contact us through our website at www.southshoreorthopedics.com
