Teamsters know how to hold a line!! It's a small group and they would love union sibling support to keep up redirecting/embarrassing trucks and scabs 24/7. The HEA was there last Thursday night and will be again tomorrow evening! (FYI- these folks are in the same union as Hingham's DPW.)

Members of Teamsters Local 25 at Airgas have been forced to strike after the company presented an unacceptable contract proposal that fails to provide fair wages, affordable health care, and a secure retirement.

“The company’s offer is an insult to our hardworking members,” said Thomas G. Mari, President of Local 25. “These skilled Teamsters are fighting for the wages and benefits they deserve. Airgas needs to come to the table with a real offer that reflects their dedication and contributions.”

Thank you to everyone who voted! Removing the graduation requirement was an immediate relief for many students at HHS. Several interrupting their classes for an MCAS retake the other day could focus on just doing their best. That one test in one subject would no longer invalidate their strengths in other subjects and the effort they put into their studies in general every day.

It's official! Voters approved Yes on Question 2 MA to replace the MCAS graduation requirement and "welcomed a new era in our public schools."

Like in ~40 other states, the MCAS would still exist as usual for data collection, it just wouldn't be a graduate requirement anymore.

✅ ✅ Introducing: Yes on 2!
On Nov. 5, vote YES on Question 2 to replace the MCAS graduation requirement and prioritize educating the whole student – by ensuring that students have met the Commonwealth’s high standards based on coursework and educator assessments.

Yes on 2 is a vote for .

All contracts settled and MOUs signed! Ratification meetings on Monday July 8th. Check out the wins for Units A, B, and D made possible by a killer Contract Action Team holding countless 1:1 conversations, 10 minute meetings, weekly standouts, rallies, and coordinating the overwhelming majority of members to join our relentless coordinated bargaining teams at 70+ negotiation sessions spanning over 1.5 years! Unprecedented levels of communication, transparency, and strength helped get an override and then additional budget increase passed to bring these positive changes to our schools, students, and families! Thank you to all members and community supporters who made this possible. We hope that educators around the state can help keep up this momentum!

Last Thursday over 400 members of our Association participated in a vote of No Confidence in School Committee Chair Nes Correnti’s leadership of Hingham Public Schools. The vote passed with 96% voting in favor. While members of the HEA recognize the importance of volunteers in local government, it is critical to hold them accountable for the work they do. Educators have been sounding the alarm for over a year and Chair Correnti has failed to listen or take meaningful action. Staff are concerned about the future funding and operations of Hingham Public Schools and do not always feel listened to or treated respectfully. We hope our vote will be taken seriously and encourage a change in individual actions or people elected. We stand ready to work with our elected officials for the benefit of Hingham students and community, but need a willing partner to do so successfully. We identified 5 major areas of concern:

1. Our “No Confidence” Vote in Superintendent Adams last December was disregarded.

2. Employees have not been paid accurately and on time. Related grievances were denied and over 15 wage law violations affecting hundreds of employees are unresolved.

3. School spending growth was unreasonably restricted to 3.5% in a MOU to help pass the override. After an inadequate budget was proposed, Town Meeting increased it using free cash. The will of the voters was then still ignored.

4. Inadequate para wages and benefits has caused chronic understaffing and resulted in noncompliance on IEPs for over 100 students across 3 schools. Several hundred thousand dollars budgeted for para pay was instead spent in other areas.

5. Staff have experienced demoralizing and hypocritical negotiation tactics. The district’s email list server, website, social media, and news media has been used to send out mass communications that demoralize, demean, and attempt to silence staff. Despite a verbal commitment to helping educators achieve a better health insurance premium split, we were stonewalled during negotiations. There have also been threats of no retro pay if negotiations go past June 30th.
